    Hi Ladies
This is my first post here with a Q .. normally I just lurk around cos I am pretty new to this stuff and like to learn from other's exp.
I graduated from RE yesterday at 8w2d and now have to set up my first appnt with OBGYN. Till now I was awefully pampered by RE and had U/S every week to see how little ones are doing?

Now I don't know what to expect at gyn's office? How often do they do the U/S? Haven't a clue ... girls... please help..

My next gyn appnt is on June 13th (I'll be 9w4d) .. will she do an U/S then or directly at 14th week? I am walking on needles as I had a miscarriage before. So far so good this time!! My RE told me that I could come in one more time if I wish to at 10th week.. but of course he is much costlier than GYN( they raised their prices recently)...
I am still planning to go get the 10w U/S done.. but can u help me on what to expect on my first GYN visit??

    Thanks in advance!!
    Kash

    [SIZE=10pt]Congratulations on your lil ones!!

I think each OB is different. My OB did a quick U/S at each visit ~ to check HB's, movement and growth. It was on an older machine, but we could see everything and it was very reassuring.

Could you call the practice and see what they 'normally' do? You may/should be monitored a lil more closesly due to your previous loss

    April :)

Thanks April..I'll try to call them and see if they are able to help me with more info. The number I called yesterday to set up the appnt didn't help me much and left me more confused..!!
    Thanks again :)

I agree...every OB will likely have a different approach. I, too, get a quick peek at the babies by u/s at each OB appointment. Not very good pictures, but reassuring!

    Congrats and welcome!!!

Don't mean to sound ignorant, but what does RE stand for?

Glad you've joined us! I'm excited for you!

I think calling to find out what their protocol is a great idea. You'll get all that extra pampering and attention because you're having twins and because of your previous loss... I had a very early u/s (because of a m/c) and then every 2 weeks because of my age and mono/di twins. Good luck and welcome!

Like the others said, every OB is different. My OB didn't ever do an u/s on me. :pardon: They sent me to a Peri once a month, so that's where I saw my babes on u/s. The OB saw me monthly until 28 weeks, then it became every other week and at 32 weeks it became weekly. The u/s were once a month until 30 weeks, then became every other week until the end. I think calling them and finding out the information will put you at ease. I know I was so nervous when I left the RE because they did weekly monitoring. I hope you have a very healthy and happy pregnancy!! :hug99:

Hi Kash, welcome to Twinstuff and congrats on your twins.

Your OB should definitely monitor you more closely especially with a previous miscarriage. If I were you I would also consider seeing a peri. I saw one along with my OB, only due to having twins, I was not high risk for any other reason. My peri did a growth u/s at every visit, which was very nice. My OB did an u/s at every visit to determine the h/bs.

Please consider joining our Big Sister Program. You will be matched up with another Mom with older twins and she will support you throughout your pregnancy and beyond. Click on the link in my signature for more information, it's a great program. :)

    Again, welcome and congrats! :)

Hey Kash, congratulations!!! When I finally graduated from my RE, I immediately saw a peri because of a previous loss also. Hopefully they will refer you to a peri? That would be best for sure. My peri saw me as often as I needed to feel comfortable and he did u/s every appt. I felt silly being so cautious, but was very fortunate that I did when I went in at 20 weeks to find I was dilated and in labor. One thing that I didn't expect in switching to a peri/ob is that the nurses are not as explanatory as with your RE and also they do all kinds of testing, but rarely give you the results unless they're abnormal. I was so used to being called later that day after having my blood drawn at my RE so it took me awhile to get used to. Just a heads up!

Congrats on your pregnancy!! You'll find very different practices at different places. I go to see my OB every 4 weeks until 24 weeks, and then every 2 etc. Each time I come in she does an ultrasound to do a quick fluid check (my babes are mono/di) and to get the heartbeats. I get a level 2 u/s every 4 weeks and the visits are coordinated so I essentially have an u/s every 2 weeks at this point. As you progress it appears to be more often. When you find out the protocols for your office, I would also be sure to ask if there is anyone you can call for after hour questions/concerns, and what to do in case you feel you need to be seen after hours. I know my hospital has a maternal outpatient room (AKA pregnant ER, I was just there last night) where you can go after you are so many weeks pregnant and not have to deal with the ER or urgent care. That was very useful info for me because I do not know what to expect with a twin pregnancy, it is all so different. It puts my mind at ease knowing that I can go there and be seen by OB's-so far everything has been little things, a UTI, aches and pains, but it was very reassuring to go. Good luck and let us know how your appt goes.
