my kids love music - we listen to it every morning and night - they know how to work the CD player in their room (which, with cameron, means that we listen to his favorite songs OVER and OVER and OVER!).

anyway, we need something new in our rotation (which currently consists of sesame st, signing times, sharon lois and brown, a toddler tunes cd and, their favorite, oy baby (if you are Jewish i HIGHLY recommend this one). any suggestions?

Right now Emilie and Trevor are into anything Wiggles! But usually their big sister has her CD's playing so they have to listen to High School Musical and Hannah Montana. :D

The 3 CD Sesame Street collection; a Disney collection of classic children's songs (this one's old, from when my boys were small); a mix tape my mom made of kids music from her old records from the 50s (seriously, songs like "Buffalo Bill" and "Wyatt Earp"); "Slip Slidin' Away," by Paul Simon; "White Room," by Cream; "Puff, the Magic Dragon," by Peter, Paul & Mary; "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," also PP&M; a tape of classic children's tunes in German--they like pretty much everything. :D

I have an Alison Krauss cd in the player in their room right now & they love it! One song, especially, is kind of more a bluegrass-fiddlin', I guess and they just get up and dance every time they hear it!

This is really wierd but their current favorite is this Inti Illimani album I've had for years. It's andea protest music form the 70s. It's so cute the way they sing along!

They also love "Doing the Pigeon"

My boys are into music big time! We have tons of Raffi cds. "Baby Beluga" and "Bananaphone" are two of their favorites. Our other favorite singer is Brent Holmes. We have all of his cds. "Moose Tunes" is probably the top pick there. The songs are really silly and good listening. I actually like this music!!

They like Wiggles too. Doesn't everybody? :)

I agree. It is fun to listen to them sing, especially when they make up songs. ;)

Our favs are Signing Time, Ralph's World, and songs from Toddler CD's - no particular artist.

My kids are all into Julio Iglesias best of. I used to dance around the house with them both in my arms to Julio and now it's so great to see them dance on their own to the same music.

My guys love Billy Jonas! I even love singing along to his music.

Pam Blanchard and the Sunny Side-up Band

We also love Jay O'Callahan although he is mostly a story teller. My guys have listened to The Little Dragon and Orange Cheeks CD and Earth Stories over and over. We have shared these stories at their pre-school last summer and all the other kids got very excited when the teacher put the stories on. He sounds like Robin Williams to me and has a wonderful gift. http://www.ocallahan.com/store/recordings_...en.shtml#dragon

Well, there's The Wiggles and then there's the...Wiggles, oh yea and The Wiggles!! No seriously, we listen to a lot of Wiggles music around here. The other cd I have for them is Ralph's World and sometimes I will just put on the Lion King cd or something of that sort. I am about to purchase the Laurie Berkner cd because she is totally awesome. Other than that, cd's that are all types of nursery rhymes are pretty popular around here. I got a 4 cd set from Sam's club that has tons of songs and nursery rhymes that we all grew up with (John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt, Jack and Jill, Itsy Bitsy Spider etc.). The only thing that I'm a bit upset about is that there a few songs that mention Jesus or the Lord in them and I had orignally bought the cd's for my kindergarten class. Playing any songs with any religious conotation to it is a big no no in New York public schools so I had to listen to every song and mark down which ones I could play. I was actually thinking of writing to the company who published the cds because it doesn't say ANYWHERE on the package that there are religious songs. They even managed to fit the Lord's name into the song If You're Happy and You Know it. I'm surprised though because it's the Golden Book company whose name is on it. Maybe they're known for that??

Anyway, sorry for the ramble but my point was that perhaps a series of cds that has nursery rhymes put to music would be fun. I'm on the search for a different set.

Personally the wiggles drive me crazy  but I really love Dan Zanes music. It is fun and happy, and isn't really dumbed down like some kids music. Here is a review of his latest album from Amazon.com:

    Amazon.com
With each new Dan Zanes and Friends release, many fans worry that his homespun magic will eventually hit the right note with the masses. Zanes' music, as offbeat as it is organic, is so special to forward-thinking young families that plenty have batted around half-baked plans to attach a password to it. Anybody else can sell out, the thinking goes, but please, please not him. Catch That Train, then, is bound to meet with a lot of hand-wringing. For one thing, it's the first Zanes and Friends release since the crazy-haired, asparagus-stalk thin artist started appearing in videos on the Playhouse Disney channel. For another, Starbucks has stepped in to lend a promotional hand. Those are ominous indicators indeed, but if the largely on-track Catch That Train proves anything, it's that Zanes isn't lock-stepping it with the boardroom goons just yet. Once again, the high-profile collaborators (The Blind Boys of Alabama, Nick Cave, Natalie Merchant) could cause a childless hipster to heed the all-aboard call, but also as on previous discs, it's the usual suspects who supply some of the strongest tracks: Barbara Brousal on "Mariposa Ole," Father Goose on "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," and the Rubi Theater Company on "Walkin' the Dog." True, "Let's Shake" seems suspiciously TV-ready; skip it and pretend it never happened. Then keep your fingers crossed that, once this train leaves the station, Zanes--plainspoken hero to so many--won't trade it in for a stretch limo. --Tammy La Gorce

I took a twin's class and the instructor played selected pieces from Greg & Steve - We All Live Together, CD, Vol. 2. I had to buy the CD because the babies just beamed when she played it.

The fave songs on the CD for my two are "Good Morning" (this song makes me smile no matter how grumpy I am!) and "The Freeze." DH and I each hold a baby and dance around to "The Freeze" and the babies just go into hysterics.

Our current favorite is "Philadelphia Chickens" with the lyrics by Sandra Boynton. It has very funny lyrics, and great show-tune style songs. Not at all annoying. We all dance along.

My kids actually don't pay much attention to music when we play it, but I really love the Putamayo "World Playground" CDs (and they do seem to make the kids dance a little). I also like The Chenille Sisters, Dan Zanes, and Laurie Berkner.

Rhiana's umbrella, Shakira's "hips don't lie", "Beautiful girl" by some 17 year old who's name I forget, "dance and shout" by shaggy.... basically what Mommy likes, they like. LOL.

But, in terms of kids music, I have toddler time favorites, sharon, lois and brahm, The backyardigans, a Leapfrog CD that goes with the letter factory video, and some other random things.

My boys are really into Go Fish, and it is fun to listen to. It is Christian music for kids. They have a website where you can listen to some of it.

They also love Kids in Action by Greg and Steve. It is a ton of songs that make them get up and move. It has the Bear Hunt Song, which if it were up to Joy, we would listen to at least 100 times a day!!
