I was thinking about introducing yogurt to my boys but everything seems to have sugar added. Is this ok, or is there a certain type of yogurt I'm suppose to feed them?

We feed them Yo-baby. It's the only yogurt that I found that is for babies.

Yo-Baby Yogurt is a great first yogurt to feed for this reason. It also is made with whole milk.

In the beginning, the pedi told us we could introduce non-fat plain yogurt. We switched to YoBaby (which is made by Stonyfield Farms) when we started with flavors.

I thought whole milk yogurt was best for babies?

I buy either yobaby or plain whole milk yogurt. I think you don't really need baby yogurt, but I would make sure there is no artificial sweetener... Honestly nowadays 99% of fruit yogurts have aspartame, sucralose etc in them.

If the Yo-Baby (which is great and Organic) has too much sugar, you can do plain (same brand-Stonyfield Farms) and add fresh fruits yourself.

Our pedi gave us the ok to start full-fat yogurt at 9 months. Its really hard to find plain full-fat yogurt though. StonyField makes it, but our local grocery stores only had vanilla flavored. We tried that mixed with baby food fruit, but eventually just started giving them StonyField Yo-Baby flavored yogurts. My girls love the vanilla and banana and still eat it every morning.

I buy the large tub of Whole Milk Stonyfield Farms Plain yogurt, and then add my own pureed fruit to it. I also sometimes buy YoBaby but it does have oragnic sugar added to it. I've also made my own yogurt at home using Organic whole milk, it's easy. My kiddos are nutso about yogurt! they LOVE even just plain yogurt.

Yo-baby here too. I will also buy plain whole milk yogurt and flavor it myself. My kids love it plain though.

Hmm, I've never heard of that. I don't know if that is just in the states or I'm just blind. What about Minigos? I actually just gave it to them this morning. It does have added sugar but like I said I've haven't seen any with out so far. Also since I just gave it to them... what kind of reaction should I look for that it didn't agree with them? If they seem ok can I keep giving it? It's been 6 years since I've done the whole introducing foods thing and I can't remember anything!!

I used to buy Dannon Natural plain vanilla yogurt in the big container for my girls.

I was shocked when I discovered how much sugar is in yobaby. I buy the big tubs of plain yogurt and puree it with fruit.

Our docs also recommended the YoBaby stuff, and my DD loved it. I like the idea of using plain yogurt without all the gunk/fake sugar with pureed fruit too.

we use plain full fat yogurt and I usually add a jar of baby fruit to it - they both love it!

We just bought some yo-baby and I was going to give it for breakfast but forgot it was in the fridge, lol... old habit of fruit and cereal I guess. We're going to try it tomorrow.

we buy Brown Cow plain, it's 3.39 for 64 oz at whole foods (more at Ralphs) and when they were little, I added baby fruit, but they like it plain.

They get the yo-baby flavored (6 for 3.69 at whole foods), but I try to focus on the plain, it's cheaper and less added sugar.

Apparently on their website they said that yes there is sugar in YoBaby, but it's not more sugar than you'd get in a fruit jar. So who knows!

I have the same problem with the big containers of stonyfield farm plain whole milk yogurt here, our main grocery store doesn't carry it. So I get yobaby instead if I go there.

Have you tried looking at the labels of lite yogurt? I didn't buy YoBaby because I didn't like the sugar content. I found that generic Walmart brand lite yogurt had less sugar in it and went with that.

All flavored yogurt has a ton of sugar. Our boys are much older now, but I make our yogurt in the crockpot. Here's the recipe. It also has a cost comparison between yobaby and making your own. I usually start it as we sit down to supper. In the morning, it's ready to go.

I found the best results with:
1/2 gallon milk (can be whole or low-fat)
    1 T vanilla
4 T honey (or pure maple syrup as honey isn't recommended for the under 1 crowd)
1 package unflavored gelatin (makes the yogurt much thicker)
1/2 cup yogurt with active cultures as a starter. After you make a batch, you can use your own as the starter.

Add 1/2 gallon milk, vanilla and honey (or syrup) to crockpot. Cook on low 2.5 hours. Unplug and leave covered 2.5-3 hours. (2.5 hours in winter when the house is colder). Scoop out 2 cups of warm milk into small bowl. Whisk in 1/2 cup starter yogurt and unflavored gelatin. Return everything to the warm milk in the crockpot. Mix well. Replace cover and wrap whole crockpot with thick bathroom towel(s) and let sit overnight or 8 hours. I prefer to scoop off all the whey that I can because it produces thicker yogurt. Serve immediately (yogurt will be runnier) or refrigerate (yogurt will thicken). I make 1 batch/week, which feeds all of us for the week (we eat yogurt almost daily).

I used yoplait whips with both my kids at first, neither liked fruit junks, and then switched to regular yoplait.

I always bought plain, high-fat organic. Then I just added pureed fruit (apricots, peaches, prunes, bananas, etc.). It seems to be the only way to be sugar-free.

yo-baby is good but expensive. we buy the the brown cow variaties in a big container (they are the same brand as yo-baby). And they are made from whole milk so it has good fat for the babies. They love the maple one.
