What kind of twins?

When I had my u/s it was done with a tech and I didn't even have a corresponding dr. appointment...so it was quite a surprise when we saw TWO babies in there! At the time, I didn't know what to ask, and frankly she didn't offer much explanation (although she was very nice). So, would you guys mind taking a look at my u/s pics and tell me what type (mono/di, di/di, etc) you think I have? I know that it's hard to tell for sure, but just wondering since so many of you have your own and can maybe compare...

(The link is to my blog post announcing the twins...just scroll down to see the u/s pics...)

    Thanks in advance!

Congrats on twins!! It's so exciting! I think that they are mono/di (that's what my were) because the membrane that is separating them is very thin, most of the di/di twins have a really thick membrane in the middle and 2 totally separate sacs. Which there is always a chance that they might be di/di. You can google fraternal twin u/s pics and see the difference. Have you found out what they are yet? :)

How can you tell where the placenta is or how many?

    Check out this link:

It compares a singleton pregnancy at 5.5 wks, identical at 6 wks, and fraternal at 6 wks! Pretty Cool! If you can't click on it, just copy and paste it in the browser box.

No, I haven't found out the sexes yet (although if they are boy/girl that answers my question real fast!)...I'm only 13 weeks 3 days...hopefully soon! Which reminds me, I should get a ticker!

Oh, and I hate to interrupt again, but I read on here something about a T sign vs. a Lambda sign...it looks to me like a lambda sign, but I'm certainly no expert! Can any of you tell???

I think they are di di. Most likely fraternal, Congratulations!! The placenta is really not a good tool to use to decide because it's hard to see and they can fuse. This is a later ultrasound so the membrane is quite thick and very very very easy to see but it would be easier to determine zygosity if this was earlier on. If you have mono di and take a "snapshot" like this you can barely see the membrane and usually CANNOT see it unless you search with a high res machine. As you can see, This one is totally clear at all times which is the case with di di twins. If you google ultrasound of fraternal twins and ultrasound of identical twins you'll see what I am saying about the "divider" it isn't really visible with mono di.

There is still a chance that they could be ID but you'll have to wait til they're born.

Might just read your blog sometime. Looks cool!!!

    Good luck!

Not even close to an expert, but I'd venture to say di/di. Either way, congratulations! And FWIW, I said the same thing when I found out (I was by myself at the u/s) ;)

I say they are di/di, I can see a lambda sign. Take a look at my sonogram from about 12 weeks. You can see the placenta at the right and the membrane comes straight out from it. The membrane is barely visible, it's above the babies body. Here's the link, you'll have to scroll way down to the bottom..... http://impregnantwithtwins.blogspot.com/20...01_archive.html

Your sonograms a really cute. Are there twins in your family? They could be fraternal or identical, but you won't know unless they are boy/girl or until they are born.

  Congratulations on your twin pregnancy. Best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy and beyond!! :D :D

The membrane coming from the placenta will show a T-sign or a Lambda sign (twin peak). The T-sign means when the membrane comes from the placenta it will form a "T", this means there is one chorion and two amnions, mono/di...identical twins. Check out the link for lambda sign... http://www.obgyn.ufl.edu/ultrasound/Medinf...ec11/11_2b.html the lambda sign means there are two chorions and two amnions. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info!! Then it does look like di/di to me, mine were mono/di and you could barely see the membrane separating them, it was soo thin.

I also think di/di - so probably fraternal (although there is still a chance they could be identical - 30% of ID twins are di/di)

at my 10 week u/s (actually every u/s) you couldn't see anything separating them, and mine are mo/di. I can clearly see something separating your twins.
