    Hi!

I'm looking ahead. What is the next kind of carseat to buy once my boys grow out of their infant seats. (Christopher is already 14.5lbs at 3mths!! )

Anyone have any recommendations? After this next one will they need another one before a booster seat?

What are some things I should look for in the next level carseat?

    Thanks everyone!

We're in the same boat as you with one of our DD's rapidly approaching the weight limit for the infant car seat. We're interested in what other Mom's recommend.

We've heard great things about the convertible car seats by Britax. They are more on the expensive end but hear they're worth every penny. Many of the options support up to 65 lbs so this will be only seat they'll need for a while.

We got Evenflo Triumph Advances and we really like them. Here is a link to some from Target. They were a birthday gift for the girls' first birthday, we are very happy with them.

We have the Cosco Alpha Omega Elites and are very happy with them. They are rated to be rear facing until 33lbs, forward facing to 50lbs and then booster until 100lbs. So if my girls are anything like me, they can use these until college! We ordered them thru albeebaby and it was no tax and free shipping. This was much cheaper than BRU even with the twin discount and coupons. GL with your decision.

I have 2 of the Evenflo's that Aimee mentioned and I love them and the boys love them. I also just got 3 of the Britax Marathons for the minivan and put the Evenflo's in DH's car. I wanted something that would keep them in a 5 point harness longer. I love both seats.

The law states that they have to be rear facing until 12 months and 20 lbs, so you will probably need a convertible seat. I have to add though that it's really recommended for children to be rear facing as long as possible (some seats allow up to 33lbs, others 35lbs - but very often kids outgrow them in length first). So I'd go with a convertible seat that goes to 65lb forward facing, and we might even switch to a 5 pt harness after that if they're under 6 or 7, as 5 pt harness are much safer than regular boosters.

I have the Sunshine Kids RAdian 80 and LOVE them! I think they are cheaper than the Britax, but rated just as high! They are great seats ... and they are narrow, so they don't take over the entire backseat!

I've been researching convertible carseats and I think we are going to go with the new model of the First Years True Fit. It should be coming out in March. They get great reviews. If we don't get those, we'll be getting a Britax or the Evenflow Triumph Advance.

thanks for your responses...this is great.

    Ok another question.
is it 20lbs AND 1yr...or which ever comes first?

    AND...

What's the convavertable carseat versus...a regular non infant car seat?

    thanks again!

Its 20lbs AND 1 year. Even if they are 20lbs before a year, don't turn them forward facing because they may not have good enough neck control. Also, I think "convertible" carseats are non-infant car seats. They are called convertible because they can be both rear and forward facing, as opposed to booster seats which are for older, heavier preschooler/school-age kids which are only forward facing.

We also have the Evenflo Symphony Advance carseats and love them. They were very easy for my DH to install and easy to adjust the straps for winter coats and baby growth. I recommend them highly.
