I read the post about when most switched to bed but Iam wondering whether I should invest in toddler beds that are low to the ground or use there twin beds that are in the attic for them. Iam not going to switch them anytime soon but if I decided to buy them toddler beds I want to get some on sale or a good deal!!! Seen as I have to buy 2 this time around!!! Wondering what everyone else did?? Any when they went to sleep at night did you close there door?? or gate??
    Thanks

    Misty

Do the sides of your baby beds come off to create a toddler bed? If so, I would say to just go with that (and a short guard rail). If not, I would say to just go to the twin beds when they are needed.

I kept mine in toddler beds for a pretty short time - honestly, even the most expensive baby mattress is UNCOMFORTABLE! I would bring down their twin mattresses & put just the mattress & box spring on the floor. My girls have been on twin mattresses/box springs on the floor for about 8 months now. One or the other falls out of the bed at least once a month so they are not ready for the switch to beds higher off the floor. My girls are in my bedroom so I don't need a gate. We have a childproof doorhandle so they couldn't leave the room before we awoke. Not that we worry about that - they start calling for me before they are even fully awake. I spend about 1/2 the night sleeping with one or the other of my little peanuts - I love their middle of the nights cuddles.

We switched to twin beds, with bedrails to prevent falls, from cribs. I took the bed rails down after about a year. Yes, the door gets closed (they prefer it that way, I only prefer it that way if I have to get up before them and don't want to disturb them as I get ready in the morning. For some reason all of my noises at night don't phase them but the morning rustlings can disturb them sometimes.).

Funny I should see this post. We switched to toddler beds starting the middle of last week. Our cribs convert but when we converted them, they were just still too high off the ground for my liking. They were not as low as a "toddler bed" you would pick up at the store. SO, I happened upon a perfect condition Wiggles plastic and metal toddler bed from a consignment shop last Wednesday and picked it up for Emily. Then I bought another toddler bed, same style but Disney Princess themed from ToysRUs on Thursday. The girls have been in them ever since without incident. I think we had such a good bed time routine and the girls are fairly mindful that transitioning hasn't been a problem at all. I love it too. At night, I still close their door all the way just as a normally would (they can't open them yet). Except in the morning, I open the door up and don't worry about making noise. When they are ready to get up, they get up and come to the living room and watch their shows while I get them ready for school. It's been a good experience so far.

We haven't done the switch yet, but we're going straight to twin beds. We'll probably put the mattresses straight on the floor at first.

Our cribs convert to toddler beds, so we'll be using those. If they didn't, we would go with the twin mattress/boxspring on the floor. Toddler beds cost a lot for the little time you use them.

We switched from cribs to twin beds. The bedframe is a wooden Ikea frame, and as it is, it is very low to the ground. So we do not have rails or anything to prevent falls. At night, we just close the doors. If they get out of bed (which they RARELY do), then they usually just come straight to our bedroom. But we almost always hear them first! Our rooms are right next to each other!

With Gabe, I transitioned into a toddler bed, then recently changed to twin bed.

with the girls, right now, they are sleeping on twin mattresses on the floor. I've got the bed frames, but haven't set them up yet. They are way to jumpy/nutso for me to have them up off the floor just yet. I do close their door at night and reimforce with a baby gate on the outside, just in case they start to open the door. I don't want them wandering the house.
