What is your OB's/hospital's policy on stopping labor at 34 weeks?

I know my hospital has a policy of not stopping labor after 34 weeks. I asked my Ob if they would if I requested it and the babies were still doing ok. She said they don't like to because it could be a sign of your body trying to get the babies out for a reason (infection brewing etc) and they think it can prevent a lot of problems. I work in peds as a nurse ( or did before this) and we were all stunned that they deliver you that early without a "real" medical problem. We see quite a bit of former 34 weekers on our floor during RSV season, for reflux, PDA's etc. Does your doctor/hospital do the same?

This was my hospital's policy too and for the same reason.

My MFM also did not stop labor after 34 weeks - for the same reasons you mentioned.

Yup, I was told if I went into labor after 34 weeks, they wouldn't stop me.

    Ditto PPs.

BUT, with that being said.... I went to L&D at 35w2d with contractions, but I wasn't dilating. They gave me a terb shot, and sent me on my way. My OB wasn't the one on call that night. I saw him in his office the next day, and I wound up delivering the boys the day after that. Not b/c of PTL, but b/c of my BP.

My hospital stopped labor at 35 weeks - but it was the result of a car accident. That may be why they did it.

My hospital also stops at 34 weeks. I just hope I don't go into labor that early!

My twins were born via surrogacy. Our surrogate's water broke and our twins were delivered at 34 weeks. No attempts were made to stop it.

My sister-in-law just gave birth recently to twins and she was only 31 weeks. Her water broke and no attempts were made to stop labor.

    All kiddos are a-okay! :)

I went into PTL at 24 weeks and was on hospital bedrest...they told me all along that if I made it to 34 weeks they would not do anything to stop the labor at that point. They never gave me a reason why, and I had too much other stuff going on to really second guess it.

The same goes for me. My doctor said that if I went into labor between 34-36 they would not stop it.

I was told they'd stop it at anything before 35 weeks. After 35 weeks it's anyone's game.

My hospital will also not stop it at 34 weeks. I went into labour on Tuesday (33 weeks 2 days) and they did not try and stop it then either. That was because my girls had TTTS surgery, low fluid etc so at this point they are fine with it if they want to come out even though they are not quite 34, so I really think it also depends on the individuals circumstances as well. Fortunately my labor completely stopped once I got to 4 cm dialated. So now I am in hospital until they decide to come for good : )

I had PTL at exactly 33 weeks and the doctor debated stopping it or not and decide to stop it since my due date was a little uncertain and the girls measured slightly small at my 32 week ultrasound. He told me that even a few days later that would not have stopped it. 34 weeks was the official time past which there would no debate and labor would be allowed to continue.
