Okay my 5 week old girls have been getting more and more cranky as the week has went on. I was up last night from 12 AM and never got back to bed. They nurse and then fall asleep while I am burping them and I rock them like an extra 5 min. to make sure they are good and asleep, then I stick them in the basinet (which we just started cosleeping them in also) they wake up with in 10 min. screaming!! And one or the other has puked everywhere, it seems to be aggrivated by lying flat. They are sleeping good now sitting in there bouncy seats. I have used some gas drops and that seemed to help last night but did nothing for them today. Alyssa keeps puking massive amounts and then acting like she is starving so I nurse AGAIN but that just starts it all over again!! They are also farting alot more than usually too (tmi). So what is causing all of this all of a sudden? Could it be my diet? I havent changed the way I eat, but I do drink coffee every morning and have since we were all in the hospital but not while prego, could that be the problem? What exactally is infant reflux? Anyone who can help PLEASE do!! PS the cosleeping WAS making the nights go by a lot easier until this all started! Help!

Bless your heart! I'm formula feeding & Maggie keeps having projectile spitups every once in awhile. We had another one about an hour ago. I can sympathize, but I'm really no help. I'm interested to see the advice you get though. GOOD LUCK!!

I would definately keep them upright after a feeding. If you still want to use the bassinet, you could put something under the legs to prop it up at an angle. I would call the ped, they might need meds for the reflux.

It sounds very much like reflux to me. My one dd got it right around the same time as yours. After losing my mind :shok: from the constant crying and spit up, I took her to the ped. They put her on Zantac which helped greatly. Not necessarily with the spit up but it took the pain away. My second dd got it when she was about 3 months old and she got it way worse than her sister. She would scream and cry (both during and after and in between feedings), arch her back (a big symptom of reflux) and I kid you not...she would spit up about 10-12 times a day AAAARRRRGGGG. It was very frustrating. Deffinately do not lay them flat after a feeding. I would DEFFINATELY take her the ped if you do not see any changes soon. No point in the little sweetie suffering. I hope she feels better soon and I hope you are able to get the much needed sleep I'm sure you need. ;) GL

Thanks for the advice ladies!! It is much appreciated, and I dont know what it is but when you know someone else is dealing with the same thing you are it makes it not seem so bad for some reason! I may call the Pedi in the morning. Their next appt isnt until next week and I am not sure I want to wait that long. Thanks again and any more advice would be greatly appreciated!

It could be... and laying flat will make it worse. Is there anyway you can prop them up? Keeping them elevated always helped mine.

Well we propped up the crib mattress and that worked wonders for Ashley.... Alyssa on the other hand had to sleep sitting up with me in the recliner last night. I called the pedi and he is out of town and I had to talk to the nurse I really dont like all that much. She is "hesitant" to call it reflux and says it could be just colic or the flu. I am supposed to quit nursing on demand because she thinks they are over eating and that is making them spit up (I dont know if I agree) so we have to nurse no more than every two hours (they were nursing as much as every hour.. so alot) I am to continue using the gas drops or gripe water and she told me to give them each a bottle of pedialyte... but she didnt really say why????? Any more advice???
