Gretchyn growls all the time lately. I just thought she was doing it because she was frustrated/irritated/what have you. But she doesn't just do it when she's mad, she does it when she's playing too. It's kind of cute sometimes, I just don't understand it. Does anyone else's kids do this?

The boys don't growl they shriek! Within the past couple of weeks they have started this high pitched shrieking sound that sounds like some kind of prehistoric bird or something and it's REALLY loud!

Mia growls all the time!! We call it her devil voice. It is random when she does it - she isn't mad or frustrated or happy. Glad that someone else has the same issue!

Yup, DD growls too. LOL. At first I thought she was uncomfortable but she does it and then smiles if you say something to her. She also blows raspberries constantly you know the "Bllll" noise with ther tongue. Its especially cute when an unwelcome stranger tries talking to her and she does it. Oops did I just say it was cute for my 6 months old to blow raspberries at strangers. Oh well atleast she at 6 months realizes that she has to find some way to get strangers to leave her alone.

Oh and both DD and DS also have the irritating high pitched shrieking noise.

I guess they are just learning how to use there voices and bodies to make sounds and enjoy all the sounds they can make.

Apparently my son-in-law is teaching the girls to growl or who knows maybe they started it and he is just mimicking them.
My daughter said one of the girls was growling pretty good the other day. :icon_biggrin:

James growls all the time, it's his way of getting me to play with him. He also makes this weird noise by sucking in air - he sounds like a baby pterodactyl.

I think I would prefer a growl. Everyone always gets in my DD's face and talks to her and she looks at them and say's boooooo and spits. I swear she has an attitude already. That is too cute though!

Babies are practicing vocalizations at this age -- they play with volume and pitch, etc. it's all developmental and perfectly normal.

    Hee hee

One of my guys growls all of the time. He does it when he's playing mostly, I think he just likes the sound of it.

My Danny growls too! When he's mad at his twin brother or when DH has him 'pretend roughhouse' his 4 yr old brother. It cracks me up because he is the more mild-mannered of the twins!

Hannah growls & has been for a long time. Not when she is upset though - usually when she is happy/ excited or sometimes just hanging out.

Natalie makes a sound like a kiyty purring when she is happy - it's the sweetest thing.

I need to get the video camera out!
