I am about 14 weeks and having fraternal twins, its been obvious at the last two U/S that they are in their own sacks

When identical twins share a placenta they can develope it. They can be in different sacs and still share a placenta. So being in different sacs doesn't make them fraternal. Even if the sacs are far away. This site tells all about TTTS http://www.tttsfoundation.com/. This website shows how identical and fraternal twins are formed. Just go through the slides. Hope this helps

She posted a good site. Unfortunately I know more about this than I've ever wanted to. TTTS is BASICALLY this:

It's a disease of the placenta, meaning there is nothing wrong with the babies, just their placenta. It only affects identical twins who share a placenta (chorion), although it does not affect ALL id twins who share a placenta. Because they are closely sharing their circulatory vessels through the placenta, they run the risk of one receiving too little (the donor who is likely very small and has very little amniotic fluid) and one receiving too much (the recipient who is likely bigger and has a large amount of amniotic fluid). The donor will become anemic and its organs will shut down, thus causing fetal demise. The recipient is forced to circulate more than its body can handle so its heart has to pump too hard, which can eventually put it into heart failure (among a few other things) and also result in fetal demise.

Without treatment it is close to guranteed that at least one twin or both will pass before birth. Except in the case of an acute episode that happens at birth.

Please, if anyone sees anything that I've posted that isn't correct or is misleading, then feel free to correct me. Sometimes it's hard for me to write things out bc my mind is all over the place.

Sorry I just realized I didnt post the second site saying how identical twins and fraternal twins are formed. The only way to know for sure is if they share a placenta or are in the same sac they are identical. If they are different genders they are fraternal twins. Otherwise if the sacs are far apart and they are the same gender with different placentas you won't know until after birth if they are fraternal or identical. http://www.babyzone.com/loadpage/slideshow...baby-twins&

    i am 22W6D preg with mono/di ( identical ) boys.

They share a placenta, but have thier own amniotic sacs inside it. As of this last u/s they are being monitored weekly for TTTS as there appears to be an issue with baby B's fluid ( a bit less than A's suddenly ), and he is also having some cord blood restriction.

TTTS does not happen with fraternal twins, as they do no share a placenta.
