What is this feeling?

So, I know I am not a first time mommy so I should know what a contraction feels like. But, when I am out and about for a while or have been at work busy for several hours, I get a crampy feeling in my belly. It is kind of in the center and below that. It just feels crampy and uncomfortable. The part that confuses me is that it will last for 10-15 minutes until I sit down and relax. My ob says she is only concerned if I have 6 or more contractions in an hour. Problem is I can't figure out if this is a contraction! And if it is, I can't tell when it starts and stops! Any ideas?

Probably Braxton Hicks contractions...drink lots and lots of water...then drink some more. Lay on your left side. If they are Braxon Hicks they will stop :)

You are a bit further along than me but oddly tonight I was going to post a similar message about this feeling I am having. It would be helpful to me for people to describe soome of these different feelings.

Tonight I am 13 weeks 4 days. I am having this sort of sharp jabbing feeling almost right behind my belly button but a bit to the left. It is pretty steady.

I dont what braxton hicks feels like or how early it starts. Maybe this is something different all together. Does this sound familiar to anyone?? It is a little painful.

the jabbing might be stretching pains? i dunno! lol its my first pregnancy. ive had the jabbing pains along the lower right side, and im guessing its just stretching. ive been having the braxton hicks though, especially after reading someone else's description. i do notice if im not drinking enough water i get them. drinkdrinkdrink! isnt it too early to have BH?

Unfortunately with twins BH start earlier than with a single pregnancy. I asked my OB as I started having them really early and he said it was normal. Definitely drinking water and relaxing helps a lot. I get them quite a bit so I feel for you.

    Hi
That happened to me all the time. I think it's just your body's way of telling you its time to take a break. Whenever that happened to me I would drink some water and sit down and it would go away.

I always say when you are pregnant you can hear your body telling you what to do...when it's twins your body SHOUTS!

I think I finally am feeling BH contractions today. I am at 25 weeks. I may have had a couple before this but today it's more frequent. The babies are moving around SO much. I can actually watch my stomach move..so incredible. I wonder why they are moving so much today?? This BH feeling is weird. It feels like the baby is rolling down by my groin...kind of makes me a bit sick to my stomach..just a little bit and then my stomach hardens. Ugh. I coughed and one started. Then, I got up and went downstairs for some water (I am working from home today) and another one seemed to start. I feel fine now. Very interesting things are starting to happen! Like I have been saying throughout this whole pregnancy: I just wake up and wonder what the heck is going to happen to my body today :D

I get the same type of feeling from time to time. I own and operate a bed and breakfast and when I am on busy mornings when I am cooking breakfast and serving guests, I get that same type of cramp, but on my lower left side. It only helps to sit down and relax. I don't think it is a contraction, since I get several braxton-hicks a day, and it feels nothing like it. I think it is some sort of stretching pain. Just take it easy and relax when it happens. I am sure I don't need to tell you to drink lots of water and get as much rest as possible. Good luck!!!

I know exactly what you are saying! Last night I was getting some of the biggest (I don't know how to really explain it cause pains aren't quite right) cramps... I guess. I was sitting down and I started getting them on my left side and then up at the top. I don't know if the babies were turning or if it was stretching, but it was definately uncomfortable. Sometimes I think the babies are sitting in some really strange positions, cause I can hardly walk, let alone bend over to let the dog out on his chain to potty!

I'm glad you mentioned this, I started getting BH this week, too. I have been having some strange feelings recently, but trying to decide if it's fetal movement, cramping or BH can get confusing. I've decided that anytime I feel something weird, I drink more water and lay down. Whatever is going on calms down after a while.

I don't know about the cramping actually, you should probably call your doctor and get his/her input. Mine always asks if I've had cramping so it might be important. I have had tons of BH contractions since 25 weeks. You'll know it's a contraction because your belly will get hard, either in an area or the entire belly. Mine started out just certain areas with no discomfort, and now they're whole belly (the belly distorts as it tightens around the two babies) and mildly uncomfortable. It's sometimes hard to stand up during one. Hope that helps!!

My doctor said that if your stomach feels as hard as your forehead then it is a contraction and call if it happens more then five times in an hour. If it is hard like the tip of your nose, then it is just "baby hard." Hope that helps.

Hello- I actually started feeling those feelings right around your time too. The only way that made the feeling
go away was to lay down flat on my left side. My belly would get tight and I would feel a lot of pressure. I've
been pregnant before so I was amazed that these feelings were happening so early. I would feel these feelings when
I was 30 plus weeks. Different now with twins! And the water I would think helps a lot too! When this happens, I would
lay down soon. Because you don't want too much pressure going on your cervix- we all know how the cervix can get thin
from the weight of the babies! Take care-

That really helps me! Thanks for posting that!!!

I know I get BH sometimes - my whole belly get tight. Usually get them after I've been on my feet too much. I've also had some cramping, but my belly did not get hard, so I had no idea what that was about. My doctor has said I'll know when they are contractions and I'll have to breathe through them, but it is helpful to have something to go off of!

I'll be 34 weeks tomorrow and I've had an increase in cramping. They feel like menstrual cramps. I tell my nurse and doctor when I have my appointments and they ask me if I'm timing them. I'm not quite sure how to time them. I never went into labor with my son or daughter. I still have them some times, even if I'm lying down. A friend told me that if I can't time them then they're probably not the "real thing." Does this sound like wise advice? I'd like to make it another few weeks.

yup. Braxton Hicks. It's your body telling you that you are doing too much.
