So, Pull ups are diapers right?

I can see that they can help to get children to learn to "pull up" their underwear/pants so it will help after pottying and learning to dress. But is there any other purpose?

Are they more expensive than regular diapers? Are they worth it?

    Thanks in advance!

We didn't use them for actual PTing - my son was able to move straight from diapers into underwear with relatively few accidents when he was ready. We do use them at night, though, since he is not PTed over night.

They are more expensive than regular diapers - but, in theory, you would go through fewer of them in a day if your child is ready to use the toilet some or most of the time.

To make you spend more $... But seriously, my DD likes them cause she feels that they are more like underwear

I did not use pull-ups during pee potty training but....

I found "nightime" thicker absorbancy pull-ups very useful. I used them for a couple months at bedtime for both boys after they were daytime potty trained but not yet night trained. It spared night time accidents and changing wet sheets in the middle of the night. Once they went for a couple weeks with dry pull-ups overnight, I switched to underpants at night as well. Since they were in underpants during the day, they felt it was "beneath" them to wear a diaper to bed.

Wearing a pull-up during the day was useful with one of my sons. He pee trained within a day but took almost 2 more months to fully poop train. He would never pee in a pull-up...so it worked for him. It saved embarassing moments when out and about and spared us from having to throw out soiled underpants. One day the poop thing fully clicked and that was the end of pull ups.

Pull Ups are essentially diapers that are easier to pull up and down. And they cost a lot more. We use them at preschool because we have to, and sometimes at home because they are easier to pull down when we're trying to use the potty. Honestly though, I don't think they train at all!

I actually started using Pull Ups (even though we're not even CLOSE to training) because my son fights his diaper changes SO BAD because he doesn't want to lay down - it worked, and it only took one pack for him to go back to not fighting the diaper change...

We went from diapers to regular underpants. There are some "experts" who say Pull Ups delay the process of potty training because they don't notice as much if they have an accident (which is why they now make the "cool alert" kind). I think those "experts" are right -- especially with kids who don't mind sitting in a damp diaper. There is the hassle of changing their pants when they have a whoops but they know without a doubt when it happens and they are stopping themselves and finishing their business on the potty which is excellent for muscle development and practice holding it. Accidents are small, few, and far between and we only started a week ago. The poopy undies get washed with their diapers and pee undies go in the regular laundry.

I agree with debid's post that Pull Ups aren't really for training. yeah, they are basically diapers that pull up and pull down.

That said, since we are doing this sort of practice-until-we-do-it-all-the-time kind of potty training, my boys do wear pull ups, simply because they are wayyyy easier to deal with when you are going to the potty once an hour. Regular diapers are just way too tough to do all that with.

    I agree 100%
We used pull ups soley for night time when DD wasn't ready to get herself up and use the bathroom yet. Finally one day when the pull up were gone I decided I wasn't buying anymore and DH had to take her to the bathroom for the middle of night training. She now does it herself or can hold it until early morning.
