    hi all,
i am 27 weeks and still working fulltime at a sometimes physically demanding job. other times, it is very low stress. anyway, after months of asking, i finally got switched to a fulltime position this week, even though i've already been working fulltime hours, just no benefits. my doc wont put me on bedrest for 'comfort' reasons unless i ask her to, otherwise i can work until i start dilating or medically need to be on bedrest. as of 26 wks, my cervix was still closed. the outer os was open a little but the internal os is closed and the cervix is long. i'm starting to get more uncomfortable with the hip and groin pain, but feel i can probably work fulltime another month or so. there is no such thing as 'light duty' at my job, so it's either all or nothing. what is the longest into your pregnancy that you've worked fulltime? thanks,
    amy

I had a desk job and worked until I was 37 weeks, 4 days (43 hours a week). I had the twins in a scheduled c-section (Twin A was breech) at 37 weeks, 5 days! :) My doctor would have gotten me off work earlier, but I had a great pregnancy and felt I'd be bored at home and we needed the $$.

I have a very physically demanding job an I had to stop at 28 weeks, doc orders. I was still closed and everything was ok but physically my body was overworked. I went on bed rest at 31 weeks. You will know when its time for you. Good luck!! :hug99:

Desk job here - I took myself off at 35 weeks 4 days - the girls came the next day.

My doctor didn't take me off because there was no reason to medically. I just finally got uncomfortable and tired.

I'm a teacher, and I worked up to about 28 weeks. I wasn't put on strict bedrest, thankfully. It was modified bedrest - no cooking, cleaning, etc. Basically sitting around all day doing nothing! I stayed closed almost the entire pregnancy (I had a C). Doctors wanted me on modified bedrest to make sure the babies would stay put as long as possible and also to keep my BP down.

My job is not physically demanding (I teach, but was the department head when pregnant so in my office most of the day, not in the classroom) Because the way maternity leave where I work works, I wasn't able to start maternity leave until 34 weeks. I had my girls a week later. The hardest part was I had to park a long long ways from my office.
It really depends on your job and your body.

I worked up to 35 wks, than I was put on bedrest. But I work at a desk so I was able to put my feet up during the day. Your job may put you on bedrest alot sooner because it's alot of stress on your body. Be good to yourself

I had a desk job except a couple of days a week, I would have to stand in Court to address whoever was on the bench. I had a rolling briefcase to haul files and court documents for the proceedings. It wasn't too bad. So, I worked the entire time. My doc said she preferred me to work and keep active (unless it became medically necessary). She said they use to think it was best to stop working, bedrest, etc., but they have changed their way of thinking in the medical profession now. But everyone is different and should listen to your body and your doctor and know your limitations. I was induced 35 weeks 7 days (a Tuesday) and the girls were actually born 36 weeks (Wednesday). I was fine until the last weekend and I had really hit a wall and didn't think I could take pregnancy anymore. My legs were so swollen I really couldn't walk well. I did not go to work that Monday and was induced Tuesday. Good luck!

My OB put me on a 6 hr work day at 6 months and I took myself out of work at 7 months, no bedrest and carried until 39wks 2days.

I was working full time until about 29 1/2 weeks. I was put on bed rest by my doctor for contractions and growth issues.
But I definitely should have been taking it easier earlier than that. I was wearing myself out.

I worked until 28 weeks. I didn't need any other reason than I was having twins since my short term disability automatically approves leave at 28 weeks for a twin pregnancy. Of course they didn't tell me that. I wanted to stop working due to extreme pelvic and hip pain and after jumping through hoops to get paperwork in and a bunch of miscommunications, I finally found out this information almost by accident. It all worked out in the end. I was sooooo tired the last couple of months that I basically was on a self-imposed bed rest. I ended up having a scheduled c-sec at 38 weeks. The girls were ready to go home before I was!

I worked full-time until 24 weeks and part-time until 28. My job was really stressful and had me running at a fast pace throughout the day. I didn't want to look back and wish that I'd gone out earlier b/c of pregnancy complications (I didn't have any). I made it to 38 weeks, not sure if this is why but I felt taking it easy was really important. I was never on bedrest or any restrictions.

29 weeks with PTL I didn't dilate though. I had a physical job and kinda knew I was doing too much so it was my bodies way of telling me to slow down. I had to be induced at 37 weeks (ended with c section after 2 days, I didn't dilate at all)

I am a teacher and worked up until I was almost 34 weeks, which was winter break, then had them two days before I was to go back to school. I wish I had been able to take extra time off, however it was my internship year and I had to teach 140 days that year, which meant I could only miss 6 weeks and a few extra days for sickness. By the time the girls came I was so tired and miserable. If I had taken some extra time off I am sure the girls would have stayed in longer! If you have the opportunity, take the time off--you'll be thankful you did!

I work in a school & I worked up until 2 days before i delivered. The OB wanted me home b/c I was showing lots of cx on my nonstress test. I was induced at 38 weeks.

My job involved a lot of being on my feet and in and out of the car visiting clients. It was July and I barely fit behind the wheel. I tried staying in more and doing more on the phone but it was incredibly boring being stuck in my dinky office all day. Then I had a scare on my way home (I had a lot of fatigue during my pregnancy and was falling asleep while driving) and I told DH to forget the money I could make, I was quitting. So, I quit at 32 weeks because I wasn't planning on coming back after having the babies anyway and I was miserable. My doctor would NOT put me on medical leave without a diagnosis of a problem. No problems so no leave (and certainly no bedrest). I was induced at 39 weeks.

I also have a desk job which is the only reason I worked right up until the day I delivered. I actually worked a Friday and had a horrible weekend of what I thought were braxton hicks. I called my boss Monday morning and told her I was done. Coincidently, I had a drs appt that same day and they discovered I was dilating and my boys were born that afternoon. If I had to be on my feet at all there's no way I would have lasted beyond probably 30 weeks... Good luck and just listen to your body- you'll know when it's time to stop...

I delivered via scheduled c-section, but my docs would not let me work past 36 weeks, so that is when I stopped. I delivered at 38 weeks. I thought I would be bored at home but those last 2 weeks of pregnancy, I was exhausted, I think all I did was sleep!

I worked until 35w3d when I went to the doc and was showing signs of pre-e - that was on a Thursday afternoon and the doc told me I couldn't go back to work...I went to the doctor on Monday (35+6) and they sent me to the hospital to be induced - which failed...the babies didn't want to come out but my bp was getting ugly...

the peri wanted to take me out of work at 24 weeks for no other reason other than he generally takes "all" twin moms out of work then...I told him he was crazy and unless I developed complications I was going to work until I couldn't...I also had a desk job though...

My original plan was to go FT until 30 weeks and then PT until 34 weeks. My doctor said she would give me a disability note anytime I wanted one, but if I wanted to keep working, my body would tell me when it was time to slow down or quit.

I wound up going PT at 26 weeks because I called my doctor late one night about the # of contrax I was having. She said if I was having that many, it was time to go PT.

I lasted another 3 weeks that way, then ended up in L&D at 29 weeks because of contrax again. That time, I got put on terb and modified bedrest -- no more work. And I was relieved, because I really couldn't do it anymore. I have a desk job, but just getting in the car every day and sitting at my desk, instead of reclining with my feet up, was completely exhausting.

I delivered at 37 weeks, after 8 weeks of lying on the couch essentially doing nothing. I wasn't even that bored (but I like to read and watch movies). The hardest thing was getting my strength back after so many weeks of total inactivity. I wasn't prepared for what that would do to my body.

Anyway, everyone's different, but I think most docs would advise not doing anything physically demanding while pg with twins at all -- certainly not past 25 weeks or so.

My DD is a dental assistant so on her feet all day, but her boss allowed her to work at the front desk the last week she worked, which was week 34 I believe. She delivered via c-section at 37w+something. She was not put on bedrest during her twin pregnancy.

This pregnancy she plans to continuing working full-time through May 16. Her c-section is scheduled for May 22.
