Ok, Jenna & Jonah have always been good sleepers at night/catnappers during the day. But all of a sudden last week Jenna started screaming crying when we would put her to bed at night. I held her until she fell asleep then put her back in bed. The minute she hit the bed, crying again but still asleep. So, I picked her up, help her for an HOUR then put her back to bed - same thing! Crying again! This went on from 7:00pm til 11:15pm then she slept through the night. The first time it happened I thought she was sick, maybe ear infection since we have had a few already. But then the next day, she was fine. She woke up fine, had a fine day, no fussing, everything normal. Then we had a few nights of normal. Then tonight here we go again! She screamed when I laid her down for bed. I let her cry for a few minutes but then got her because she was really loud and upsetting Jonah. As soon as I picked her up she started to settle down, but she had been really worked up, big tears and everything. I held her, she went to sleep, went to lay her down and crying again but she was still asleep. I patted her and she settled down. Since all that happened around 7:30 tonight, I can hear her cry out every so often. She just cries out once or twice then nothing. Oh, and today, she was just fine all day. She doesn't do this when I put her down for naps and she played nicely today. No fussing or anything.

I know this is very detaied but I am perplexed! If anyone has any input please let me know. I just don't want to miss some kind of warning sign if she is sick or something. It is crazy! Am I missing something??? Is this normal?

Shay, I think she's just wanting your attention and when she wakes herself enough to realize it, she calls for you. How long will she cry if you don't go in? If it's 5 min. or so, I would try it. If you are not into having them cry, try soothing without picking up first.

Just a few thoughts!! I don't have any solid advice! Sorry!! [IMG]

Emma has been doing this for about a month now. It is not every night. Thursday and Friday she was doing it every hour. Friday we resorted to the infant Tylenol and she slept in 4 hour streches, last night we didn't give her anything and she slept from 8 to 6:30 without even making a peep.

It is SO frustrating because there is no clear reason and no pattern. We have decided it is a combination of teething and gas. That might be true or it might not but at least it makes us feel like there is a reason.

We have tried CIO - she will scream for 15 minutes and all that does is wake up Mia. So - we give her any/all of the following (not at the same time of course) gas drops (she gets these anyway), infant tylenol, and teething tablets.

Good luck - if you figure out what it is please let me know!!!

Our boys started doing this type of thing around 6 months too. I think it was teething. We would give them infant Tylenol or Motrin but at times this didn't help and they just wanted to be held or patted. I think their teeth become really uncomfortable and it's just hard for them to relax and sleep. I also think they start dreaming around this time because they would cry without waking frequently. This hasn't happened as much lately but it still does. We just go in and pat them if they don't stop crying on their own after a couple of minutes. We don't CIO...it wouldn't work with them I'm sure! [IMG] GL! Just remember that it's only a phase and it will pass soon.

Chloe started doing the same thing around 7 months. I thought it was teething, but I think it's a combination of that and seperation anxiety starting up. Since trying to move them back in their cribs after a period of sickness and surgery, it's started up again. Since she didn't fuss or wake up when we were co-sleeping again, I've realized it's more than likely sep anxiety. She used to go to sleep and stay asleep with no problems. Now, she's so upset that she refuses to go to sleep even if exhausted. Naps are fine, just nighttime. I'm hoping it will pass soon too! [IMG]

Thanks everyone! I think it is the sep. anxiety and also could be the teething. She is doing it right now during nap time - first time for that. She settles down when I go in and pat her then as soon as I walk out the door - screaming! I know I can't talk since they sleep 12 hours at night but it is driving me nuts! Naptime is when I deal with Jack and pick up, etc. I know it will pass. I don't mind CIO for a few minutes but when she gets really worked up it doesn't seem to work. Also, she wakes Jonah.

Gotta go pat and put the paci back in! Thanks!
