What is considered sleeping through the night?

I think my LO's just went through a growth spurt, because they both were getting up 2x a night for the past 3 nights. But, typically they go to bed at 8pm and dont usually wake for a feeding until 4:30 or 5;30am. I considered that sleeping through the night, even though its not my night! What do you all consider sleeping through?

Yes, I would consider that sleeping through if they go to bed at 8 and dont get up until 5ish. That is awesome for a 4 month old.

I agree, 8 pm - 5 am at 4 months old is definitely STTN!

I agree. I would call that STTN and it's great for their age! :woo:

Your LOs are doing great!! My pedi defines STTN as five consecutive hours, though it's not MY definition, heheh. Mine are going from 8/9ish at night to 7/8ish in the morning.

Ha... I was wondered what STTN was too. My girls, for the past 2 weeks have been getting a bottle at 7:30/8pm and after burping and changing are asleep in there crib by 9pm. they normally sleep till 4am... which is great, and I will totally take at this age. (they will be 3 months tomorrow)
But last night they slept till 5am! which was even cooler! I changed there diaper, gave them 2 ounces, put them back in and stayed till 7am. I am working towards 7:45am. But they are doing great. Definitely sleeping thru the night.. I guess by pedi's standards. Not mine. :)

    timba09 - I want what you got going. :)

8pm to 5am is great at that age!!!

But I've always thought it just really doesn't matter if it's called STTN or not  What's the point of saying that STTN is 5 hours for young babies? Just so we can say they STTN earlier? I was happy enough when my kids slept until 5am without feeling the need to call it STTN.

So no, for me STTN means sleeping until 6am (or 5am I guess if it's the time your household usually wakes up at). But it doesn't make it less of an achievement for a 4 month old to sleep until 5am.

I definitely agree that is STTN! My pediatrician told me that it would be when they started going 5-6 hours straight through. My personal definition was 8 hours or more. Enjoy the sleep Momma!

It's STTN for me, and considering mine didn't do more than 4 hours at a stretch until 8 months old--I think you're really lucky.
