i've had about a million U/S's, and have no idea what levels they were. they were all the same, tho. they lasted like 45 minutes and the tech measured everything.
so what are all the levels?
    thanks...

I THINK LEVEL II ARE WHEN THEY MEASURE EVERYTHING HEIGHT, WEIGHT, STOMACH, BLADDER, HEART, LOOK AT HANDS, SIZE OF HEADS, FEET, CORD, FLUID, GROWTH. NOT SURE WHAT ALL BUT THEY TOOK LIKE AN HOUR.

    HOPE THAT EXPLAINS

our peri calls that a growth study and a level 2 u/s. i think it might also be a BPP.

I've also heard it called an anatomy scan. It usually happens at about 20 weeks. They do a lot of measurments at my u/s's too but they definitely did a few more at this one. It took about an hour and a half. The "regular" scan I had today took about 45 minutes.

THere are some technical differences in the equipment as far as capability, but a level 2 can measure more things and more accurately. IF your u/s sees very clearly inside the baby, you probably are having a level 2 u/s. The differences in the equipment have to do with sensitivity and frequency of wave lengths of the u/s. You can have an anatomy scan with a level 1 u/s machine as well. Sorry if this doesn't sound complete since I'm not sure how much detail you are really looking for. I'm not in the medical field, but I do a lot of u/s techniques from an engineering perspective, and they work similarly.

An example - I had my anatomy scan with a level 1, and you can tell the heart is beating. With a level 2, I could see inside the heart.

    I hope that helps!

between 18 - 20 weeks. you have probably had one and just didn't realize it. it's an u/s that takes a really long time. and it's the one where they tell you if it's b/g.

You may have had one and just not know it, or you may not have had one. Typical OB/gyn's have a level 1 machine. Large city hospitals, research hospitals, and OB/gyn's who specialize in twins would likely have a level II. The equipment itself is supposedly much more expensive, so they only have them if they are going to need os use them. From what I understand, you would only have one around 20/22 weeks, or maybe another if there is a potential problem. A level 1 or level 2 can take as long or as little time as they need to check on the babies. Some twin moms never get a level 2, while some I suspect get more than one. It's just a higher power tool that is available if/when needed.

My boys share a placenta and they do a level 2 at every u/s appt. which is every two weeks. So what I assume is that if there is a potential problem (1 TTTS scare for us) they will do more than just the one at 18-20 weeks.

PS We go to a big city hospital that is also a teaching school which may also have someething to do with why I get them so much!!

My 20 week was a regular Level I where they check everything. The technician told me a lot of people think that's actually a Level II. A Level II is when the check specific organs and/or issues (like a heart) in more details. Most people just have regular Level I where they check growth, organs, etc.
