    Hi All,

I was just curious.. What if my water were to break. How soon should I expect the contractions to get more intense? If it were to break My husband works about 25 minutes from our home. So he has to come n pick me up then we have 20 minutes to drive to the hosp. That's without traffic.

So.. Let's hear your "OMG, my water broke stories"

    Thanks!!

My water broke with dd2...granted, not twins. But, it broke, I called my husband...couldn't get ahold of him. Called the neighbor girl to come babysit, finally got ahold of my husband. He had to drive 25 minutes home, then we had to drive 20minutes to the hospital. All in all I had about 2 hours worth of stuff before we made it to the hospital...ok, closer to 3 (I just did the math). I was having some intense contractions (because they hurt way more once your water breaks), but made it in plenty of time. Now, that was me with dd2, some people don't have as much time. However, you probably do, so call him and get ready to head to the hospital. And if you are worried, just breathe and you'll be fine

My water broke at 7am while I was getting out of bed. I had to wait for my sitter to get to my house. We got to the hospital around 8am and I had my c-section around 10:15am. I never had a single contraction. I had a c-section because I had one with my first DS.

ok ladies please don't hate me, but my water broke with my first daughter at the MOST opportune time. I woke up for a 4 am pee break and sat on the toilet, peed, then it didn't stop. My water started leaking! Perfect timing. I didn't break like a gush, but was leaking steadily. I put a towel between my legs with some pants on over it, and we drove to the hospital. Besides being 4 am, it was extremely convenient. The last few weeks of the pregnancy i would't even sit on our couch afraid my water would break on it!!! If only i would have known. :)

My water broke with my ds at 35 wks 6 days, while I was standing in the kitchen getting a piece of gum, getting ready to head out the door to a friend's wedding! :D (It was a saturday afternoon)

I didn't have ANYTHING packed, I panicked, called my mom (who lives 2000 miles away), she said "What do you want me to do?? Call your ob or go to the ER!" So we jumped in the truck and RACED to the hospital. Remember, I still didn't have a thing with me!

I was admitted, wasn't having any noticeable contractions, ended up on pitocin, maxed that out and still no dilation, did the cytotec pill I think it was?! That was 7 yrs ago so that could be wrong, anyways the pill to soften your cervix, back on pitocin...STILL no dilation. 12 hrs after my water broke I had a semi-emergency c/s when ds's heartrate was dropping with each pitocin induced contraction.

My water broke with dd at 38 wks 6 days, the night before my scheduled c/s at 12:30am. I was sleeping and woke up thinking I was peeing myself, rushed to the toilet and peed. Stood back up, went back to bed, felt another gush so rushed BACK to the toilet. Did this about 4 times before I said "Uh, David...." And he sat straight up in bed and said "Your water broke!" This time I was ready, we packed up the last few things, woke MIL/FIL and ds and toodled our way to the hospital. Again, no noticeable contractions, was prepped and had my c/s at 3:30am, instead of the scheduled 7:30 am :)

So....for me I never did have good contractions after my water broke, and my ob believes I just can't labor on my own. Doesn't matter since it's a moot point because after two c/s there's no way they'd let me try a VBAC with twins, and I wouldn't want to try one anyways! ;)

My water broke the day before I was supposed to be induced, at about 10am. It just trickled, and I wasn't even sure it was my water. I waited for DH to get home, we ate dinner, and eventually went to the hospital. I started to get contractions a little more on the way to the hospital (before that, I only had a few the entire day). Checked in at about 8pm, 8cm dilated already!!! I thought this was going to be easy, and the ob said we are having these babies soon! Throughout the night I was maxed out on pitocin, and the contractions never got really bad. Ended up with a c-section at 7 am because I would not get past 8cm. <_< Apparently Tatiana had her hand on her head, and so she was not putting the right amount of pressure on my cervix to finish.

My water broke(twins) around 12 noon when i got out of the shower. I was 35 weeks. I thought it was just some water from the shower. I got dressed , went to the bank, took dd to the orthodontist, which meant walking through town . It was there it dawned on me it really was my waters. So after appt was done we headed home. I packed my hospital bag, waited for mil to get my other kids and dh and i left for hospital. We waited and waited for contractions..zzzzz. Contractions didn't start until 9AM the next morning. Babies were born vaginally 3 hours later.

Well if they hate you, they'll hate me too! I had a 2:30am pee break and after I was done and pulled my underwear up, the water started leaking out. It wasn't a gush but just steady. I put on a thick maxi pad, got DH up, and we drove to the hospital. I already had a bag packed but of course DH didn't. So we go there about an hour after my water broke. I was so nervous/in shock of what was happening, when I called the OB and got the answering service, I couldn't remember what my telephone number was for the doctor to call me back!

Haha.. then they hate me too! I got up at around 8am to go pee.. went.. began to pull my pants up & BOOM.. my water broke all over the floor barely missing the toilet  My DH was downstairs on the computer just abouot to head out the door for work. I remember saying exactly this, "Uhmmm, babe? I THINK MY WATER BROKE!" Him and his mother nearly trampled over each other running up the stairs! I put a towel between my legs, I gathered my things, headed to McDonalds for some delicious breakfast (since I knew I would be starving later & I deserved it!) and got to the hospital around 10am. I didn't feel much pain until around 6pm in which at that time I was going for a vaginal birth. I tried pushing for several hours and all the pain medications had worn off completely. At 4:08 & 4:10 am the next morning, the boys were born via c-section! So, don't worry.. sometimes things don't go EXACTLY as planned. But, I'll promise you one thing - IT WILL DEF BE WORTH IT!

My water broke when I was home alone and it was about 4:00 pm. My mom had to leave work, across town and made it to my house by about 4:30 or 4:45. Then we had to go across town again in rush hour traffic. I didn't even get to the hospital until about 6 pm. I didn't even get my epi until about 10 pm that night. Contractions started to get painful around 7. I can remember hearing "Dancing with Stars" with my eyes closed, pissed off b/c my contractions were starting to hurt. By 10 pm the contractions felt like they were just steady and never stopped.

So in my experience you'd have plenty of time. I had about 6 hours b/w my water breaking and full on horrible contractions. But the twins were my first babies and don't they say labor takes a lot longer when it's your first.

Hate me too! My water broke at 4am when I decided to pee before heading back to bed. I had just gotten off the phone with the on call OB. I had 5 contractions in an hour for two hours and called to see what I should do (I was 33weeks). Dr. said, "call me back when you have 6 in an hour". She was so snotty (not my fav). I smuggly called her back 2 mins later to tell her my water broke. DH was asleep upstairs (with our white noise fan on) and I had to scream for him for 5 mins before he woke up. I had to sit on the toilet for about 20 mins while DH got the car ready and I finally felt I could stand up w/out flooding the bathroom.

I had called my mom and she gave me the best advice. She had DH cover the car seat with a black trash bag (the kind you use for leaves) and two towels (with another towel b/t my legs). Nothing got on my car during our 20 min drive to the hospital. My contractions were 2 mins apart by 7am and I went in for a csection at 8. It was such a whirlwind!!

My water started leaking around 6pm the day before I had the boys. I just thought it was discharge because it was leaking so slowly. I had a normal evening and went to bed. I woke up about 3 in the morning to go pee and it was still leaking so we decided to go to L&D just to make sure it wasn't my water. Sure enough it was. My C-section wasn't done until 1pm. So from the time I started leaking until they were born was about 21 hours. I didn't have a single contraction.

I rolled over in bed around 2 a.m. and thought I'd peed myself. Moved to get out of bed and whoosh...I knew it was my water (this is where buying a cheapo shower curtain and placing it under your mattress pad is very helpful so you don't ruin your mattress...all DH had to do was strip the bed down and remake it...the mattress was fine). I woke DH, he said, I'm not on your side of the bed, and I said no...my water broke, he said, what? He jumped out of bed, was dressed, had my bag in the car and was ready to go before I'd even made it out of bed. I asked him to bring me a towel so I could waddle to the bathroom.

Jumped in the shower, got dressed, ate a couple pieces of pizza (because I knew I'd be starving later...which my nurse griped me out for but my OB could care less), and then we left. Got to the hospital around 4 a.m. I was having some mild contractions but nothing serious and ended up on pitocin about 10 a.m.. Got to 8 cm by about 1 p.m. and stayed there. Ended up with a c-section because both boys heads were trying to descend at the same time which kept the pressure off my cervix so it wouldn't dilate further (when I got to the hospital L's head was nice and low but during labor, he "backed up" some and his and J's head were fighting it out). Go figure.

All that to say, I would "think" you'd have plenty of time.

My water only broke with my twins (my other two where induced). But at 36wk 4days, I
couldn't get to sleep, well around 3:50am, I got up to do a pee break, well my water
broke half way to the bathroom. I tried to get DH up for 10mins (banging on the walls,
yelling his name) but it only took saying causally that my water broke and he jumped 3
feet off the bed. Well, he got the girl's dressed and handed me my cellphone and I tried
to call his Mom (which lives next door). Well, she didn't answer, he took the girl's over
there and knocked on the door, still no answer.
We get everything in the car and start towards the hosptial. (No contractions yet), I give
MIL a call and am leaving a voicemail that Im in labor and we took the kids with us and
to tell her to come to the ER asap. Well, she answers half way through (we are 10 mins
down the road), DH turns around and hightails it back to her house, half way there my
contractions finally pick up. So, he gets there, drops the girl's off and speeds to the hosptial.
(We are usually 45mins-1hr away, he makes it in 25mins). We arrive, they hook me up,
call my doctor which is already there delivering another baby, he does an u/s to check
position and checks me (Im already 6cm). They give me a shot of Demerol so that I can
sleep (remember, I have yet to get to sleep and the dr is afraid I won't have energy to push).
I wake up at 6:50am, tell DH to get a nurse, I need to push. They run in, check, Baby A
is crowning, they throw off all the wires and monitors and rush me to OR with my dr right
behind me.. Baby A was born at 7:01am and Baby B was at 7:07am. My contractions
never got to a pattern and they were around 5-7 mins apart. The nurse said they
contemplated giving me pitocen to control them because they were afraid I would never
    have them....

My water broke at 2:00 a.m. on New Year's Eve!! I actually thought I'd peed on myself in my sleep, so I jumped up and rushed to the bathroom, sat on the toilet, peed, wiped and then started to stand up when, "Gush!" Well, I thought I was peeing again so I sat back down, peed, wiped, and started to stand back up from the toilet again, when, "Gush!" This time, when I wiped there was pink on the toilet paper--and on the floor! Oh, my goodness, I thought, "My water actually broke!!"

So I had to put a hand towel between my legs so that I could get to the bedroom to wake up DH. I told him, "Honey, my water broke. Get up." He said, "Oh, okay." and promptly turned over on his side. Then I said, "HONEY, MY WATER BROKE--GET UP!!!" And he said, "WHAT?!?!?!" And then we were in a frenzy to get dressed and get to the hospital.

Zoe was born via csection at 5:06 a.m. and Payton was born at 5:08 a.m.

As far as contractions go, I didn't start having them really intensely until we were almost at the hospital. It was weird since I'd been having contractions for half of my pregnancy. Then after my water broke I had NO contractions until we got to the hospital. Then they got REALLY intense.

Hope that helps! They say that you should have at least 4 or 5 hours or so after your water breaks before babies start coming...but everyone is different! :)

At 36 weeks exactly, my water broke at 3:10 am while I was dosing on the couch. I had just gone to the bathroom to pee for the 100th time that day and laid back down. I was listening to the Food Network with my eyes closed and they had a special on Mac and Cheese (which is my favorite food in the world). When I felt my water break, I said very calmly to my husband (we were both in the living room on separate couches), "Honey, I think my water just broke." He mumbled something and I said again, "Honey, I think my water just broke" with a bit more urgency. He sat up and said "Huh?" I said it for the third time and he got up, asked me if I was okay. We called our dr. and he just happened to be the only one in his practice that was on call at the hospital but was asleep and said to come on to the hospital.

I took a shower and packed a bag – I felt better while taking that shower than I had in months because I felt less pressure and thought "This it great!!!" By the time we were in the car on the way to the hospital, it was about 4:00 am and my contractions had become very painful and about 2 to 3 minutes apart – we had a 45 minute drive.

We got in to the emergency room and we were whisked away to L & D. They monitored me and both babies and the doc came in sleepy-eyed to check on us. DH asked him if he had time to make some phone calls (thinking it was going to be a few hours before my c-section) and the Doc said "As soon as I get my shoe covers on, we're gonna deliver these babies!" I was prepped, taken to the OR and our babies came out at 6:54 and 6:55 am with no NICU – they weighted 5.5 and 4.11 and came home with me 4 days later. I really couldn’t have asked for a better situation :D

Just one piece of advice: like a few pp said they did, eat something!! I wish I had eaten something on the way to the hospital (although I did have dinner a few hours before getting there) I was sooo hungry all through the night, and totally out of energy. Maybe you could pack some snacks in your bag? They wont let you eat once you're there, which I never even thought about. GL!

My water was leaking all day, and I thought it was urine. The doctor broke it the rest of the way around 9pm, and Baby A was out before midnight. As soon as she broke my water all the way, I started having SEVERE contractions. OUCH!

My water broke when I was 31 weeks and 1 day. I was at my parents for dinner (so it was around 5/6pm) and I just kept leaking these bubbles of fluid so I was walking back and forth to the bathroom.

The Avon lady was there...I was freaking out...but I didn't want her to know so I was patiently waiting for her to leave. When she finally left the phone rang and my mom picked it up...I looked at her and lost it and said, "You need to get off of the phone because I'm pretty sure my water just broke."

It's funny to look back at now...but it was so not funny at the time.

DH works 2nd shift so he was at work. My mom drove me to the hospital and DH met us there. There's much more to the story in between there...but my contractions didn't start until 2am or so.

Don't worry...you will have time to get to the hospital if your water breaks when you're at home..or the store...or a friend's house :D

My water broke with both DS1 and with the twins.

DS 1 water broke at 4pm (as I was walking out the mailbox!). I was 38 weeks to the day. Packed up and headed to L&D. Contractions NEVER started, so they gave me pitocin the next day and DS was born 36hrs after my water broke.

With the twins, my water broke at 4am (in bed!). 37 weeks to the day. And Baby A was breech, so he didn't move down and "block" the canal...so the fluid kept coming and coming and coming. I had to sit on a huge towel all the way in the hosp and while there. Yuck. Not dignified..but what about labor is?! Contractions started big time in about an hour. Babies were born by c-sect 2 hrs after my water broke.
