My 8 month old guys have been on solids for a month and a half now. I am intruducing the foods one at a time like I am supposed to. I am also giving them a good variety of foods. I give them half of a bottle before and the rest after they finish eating. they laught qand smile and have a good time during mealtime. Both guys used to take the food and munch it right down. Once they figured out that opening up their mouths would give them more....they were like little birds. As of Firday...Ryan will NOT eat the solid foods. He drinks his 1/2 bottle...he opens his mouth for a spoonful...then he just lets the food sit there either on the roof of his mouth or on his tongue. He then sits there forever with his mouth open. He won't move his tongue he won't close his mouth. The food then starts to get watery and slides down the back of his throat. He then gags and usually ends up tossing it right back up. I do get some down. He drinks the rest of his bottle with no problem. He is doing this with will ALL foods...even the ones he used to love.

What the heck is going on????

The only thing that I can think of is he might be coming down with something, maybe sore throat that makes it difficult to swallow the solids or maybe he is teething?

Sorry no advice but remember he doesn't have to have the solids as long as he is still drinking formula, if it continues I would call the Dr.

Is he teething? I was just reading about signs of teething and it mentioned refusing solids as one of them.

Could be that. Have you tried giving more textured, chunkier foods? Maybe he is bored and ready for something different?

Well the second meal went better today. I tried peas and both guys sat there with a horrified look on their faces and their mouths open wide trying everything not to swallow the stuff. So, I switched to the pears and both of them ate just fine. The hubby and I are both VERY VERY picky eaters....I wonder if that is passed down in DNA??? HA HA!!!! If it is....we are in trouble!!!!

Mine had the same reaction to peas!! They made the most hilarious faces when they realized what I had put in their mouths. In their defense--peas really are gross! I don't mean real life peas...I like those....but the smooshed up ones in the jar--nasty! Anyways--back to your original question, I ditto the teething and/or getting sick thing. I remember that with my first son. When he was teething, and when he got sick solid food went out the window. He'll get back to normal soon!

Thanks guys! Maybe it is teething...don't see or feel anything yet...but does not mean they are not on the way!
