What happened?

I don't know what happened. Is it because I started to work again? Or is it because I no longer spend the days with my boys? Is it because my MIL takes care of them now, or is it just a phase?

My boys have been pretty good sleepers from the very beginning. My older one, who is much heavier cold self soothe himself from day one. He never liked to be rocked, just put down, no swaddle and would talk himself to sleep.
My younger one always needed to be swaddled and rocked, but once he was out, he was out.

During the day they both sleep in their swings in the morning and I always put them in for a nap in their own cribs in the afternoon where they took a nice long nap. (My older one woke sometimes and was put in the swing to get enough sleep.)

Now, it started last week. My older one woke up in the middle of the night. He wasn't hungry, his diaper was changed and as far as I could tell, he was fine. Nothing hurt either, just wanted to be up and talk and be entertained! I figured he slept too much during the day, so I rocked him for 2.5 hours!!! so nobody else's sleep would be disrupted. Although I tried to put him to sleep several times, he answered with a very loud fuss. Not cry, just fuss.

Two days ago, he did not want to fall asleep on his own at night, so I went in and held his hands until he did. And then last night he woke again and would not go back to sleep at all! I picked him up, rocked him, and when he fall asleep I tried to put him down, but as soon as he reached the crib, he started to cry and was awake again. Again, he was fed, clean, no pain, just wanted to talk and be played with. So I ended up putting him back and let him cry. I walked in and out of his room, try to comfort him time to time in between his crying periods. Eventually, about 30 minutes later I went in again to comfort him and he must have been tired enough to fall asleep.

I was wondering if any of you had similar experience? And could someone please tell me how did my good sleeper got to this stage?...lol

Any advice would come in handy.

    Thank you ladies.

I have no advice for you but I am going through it with DS as well. He will sleep so peacefully and sound and the second I set him down, hell breaks loose!

I may have to work on CIO with him soon because he wont take a paci so that is out for self soothe. DD is so easy. Just lay her down and she goes on to sleep 98% of the time on her own..** knock on wood** that doesnt change

They do go through phases of sleep disruption for no apparent reason. Could be some milestone that he's about to conquer, could be the beginning stages of teething, could have something to do with you going back to work... whatever it is, hopefully it will be just a short phase!

I am going through exact same thing we are on night number 2. I think I got total of 2 hours of sleep last 2 nights :headbang: I just hope it ends soon. Since he has reflux I was thinking he maybe uncomforatble but he isn't crying. I am sooooo puzzled but in a way glad to know I am not alone...I will be thinking of you guys tonight. Oh yeah and dh suggested not to swaddle him tonight he thinks it could be he can't get his arms out, we are trying it tonight, we shall see.
