I had an appt today and I asked my doctor what he considers full term for twins (this hasn't been an issue in the past because he didn't think I would make it to 32 weeks with my ptl issues). He said 37-38 weeks! [IMG] 38? I had heard 36-37 before. I just can't imagine being pregnant for 4 more weeks. I want to do what is healthy for these babies but I am miserable most days. He kind of laughed at me when I asked if he was serious and said he doubted I would go that long (well he also doubted 32 weeks).
So now I am wondering what do MOST doctors consider full term for twins?

My OB and Peri both felt that 36 weeks was full term.

My doctor considered 39-40 weeks full-term. Like he said, a twin is no different than a singleton, it doesn't grow faster because there are two of them. A 37-week old is still only 37-weeks old. (My husband was trying to get him to deliver the babies early.) Outside of that, I have heard that 37 weeks is considered full term.

My doc says 37 weeks is full term, but he'll be happy if I make it to 36.

My doc just told me the same thing last week, when he told me I would probably need a c-section. I laughed at the thought of making 38weeks! I am so stretched and uncomfortable now, how do I get through another month??? I know... it's best for the girls, and I am proud to have made it this far, but WOW!!! another month??? Good luck to you, I hope we both make it that far!

Funny that I just saw this thread. My OB told me today that they won't schedule a c-section before 39 weeks and they won't induce until 40 weeks. So, unless these babies decide to come earlier, I'll be miserable for a lot longer!

Mine said 38 weeks as well. I hope we can all make it at least as close as possible [IMG]

Mine considers 36 weeks full-term, but they won't induce or schedule a C-section (barring any complications) until 38 weeks.

As an aside, I went to a multiples breastfeeding class a couple weeks ago, and the lactation consultant said that twins born before 38 weeks typically had a harder time nursing -- she said it got much easier for babies born at 38 weeks...

Hang in there -- I know you must be miserable!

38 weeks according to mine... (and based on my LMC I believe its 39.1 weeks!!!)

But the end is in sight! In less than a week I will be holding my precious babies!

Mine considers 37 weeks full term but says as long as I make it to 34 or 35 he won't be too concerned. If there are any problems between 32 and 37 weeks they will deliver them early.

Mine considered 36 weeks full term but was happy if I could make it till 34 weeks. I made it to 34 weeks 2 days. I think generally 36 weeks is considered full term for twins.

Mine said 37 weeks, but she is quite satisfied with the babies being born anytime after 34 weeks. She said if I make it to 37 weeks, we'll schedule the induction that week so I'll have them just shy of 38 weeks if they hold out.

My OB said 38 weeks. If they're breech she's going to do a c-section then. IF not, she said she'd let me go to 39 before inducing.

Hang in there and good luck!

My OB says 37 weeks is full term. If I have not had the babies by 38 weeks she'll do a C-section. (We are having a repeat C-section anyway.) According to her, with twins pregnancies, the risks of going to 40 weeks in a twins PG far outweigh the benefits. As the babies run out of room there's more change for cord issues and placenta issues. My singleton daughter was 36w3d because of hypertension headed towards preclampsia. She was technically considered a preemie but only by a little but was perfectly fine. Her only issue was problems with her latch but all breathing, etc. was great.

    Hope this helps!

Ditto. Mine won't let me go past 37 weeks (but she also doesn't think there's much of a chance of me making it that long, either . . .)

  20. Mine considered 37 weeks full term, but wouldnt stop anything if it happened at 36 weeks (which it did).

I hear ya! I was hoping for a little bit earlier! But no such luck! I'm scheduled for my c-section on April 16th, which will be 38 weeks exactly. But I keep telling myself that the longer I keep them, the bigger they will be, and there will be less issues to deal with after they arrive!

But as far as coming early, my doctor was satisfied that we made it to 34 weeks ... that was the big milestone week for them ... she isn't really concerned if they come between now and 38 weeks, but I guess they aren't going to go in and get them just so I can be a little more comfortable ... haha ...

    Hang in there!

38 was what my OB considered full term with twins, but he said as long as you made it to 36 things SHOULD be fine. I made it to 35 weeks, and my little guys were perfect.

37 Weeks. My doctor told me that all along and when I got there, due to my son's stubornness in not turning over, we had a c-section the day after I "turned" 37 weeks.

    Hang in there.

Mine says 38, and that the risks start to outweigh the benefits after that.

My OB said that 40 weeks is full term for ALL pregnancies. I went to a high risk and he said that you are suppossed to be pregnant for 40 weeks for a reason. Babies shouldn't come out before then...well unless they have to. My babies HAD to come out because I had HELLP syndrome at 34 weeks. I had a scheduled c-section though that I scheduled just days before I had my babies for 39 weeks 5 days. Yikes! I couldn't have imagined going that far either...

My doc says 37-38 weeks. Has your doc mentioned at what point he will take you off bedrest? You may end up going on your own pretty quickly at that point. I've heard of people being taken off bedrest at 36 weeks b/c it's generally considered "safe" to deliver at that point.

Mine won't induce or schedule a section before 40 without cause. When I asked early in my pregnancy what happens if I get to 38 weeks and I'm huge and miserable but haven't gone into labor, she kinda chuckled and told me that most twins come early and if I make it to 37, she'll be thrilled. Boy did I show her. But, I brought home two babies who were the same size I was at birth and I was a 42-week singleton.
