What do your girls wear?

I am in the midst of planning what clothes I need to buy for my 17 month old daughters for the fall and winter. We live in a warm area (yesterday it was 95 degrees during the day) but are moving in about 2 months to a much colder city (winter highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s).

So what sorts of clothes do I really need? I see many of you mentioning leggings... do you match those up with sweaters? Do they go under dresses? I want my girls to be comfy so I was thinking I'd just get a few pairs of jeans, some thicker cotton pants, a bunch of long sleeve shirts, and some sweatshirts/sweaters. And lots of socks! What else do your 18 -24 month old girls wear during the winter?

I would add nice heavy tights to your list (I love the ones with a design on them)
That way they can still where a dress or skirt form time to time and stay warm.

Once mine were walking well and we started letting them wear dresses again, they fell in love with dresses and wanted to wear them all the time. So we had several pairs of leggings (mostly black -- goes with everything!) that they wore under their dresses. Much easier to deal with than tights, and I think more comfortable for them too. (Personally I can't stand wearing tights -- the toe seam always slides around under my foot -- ICK). However, some kids don't mind tights, and they are easier to find and come in more fun patterns than leggings.

We also did many mix-and-match outfits where they would wear jeans under their dresses, or other odd combos that they came up with. It was right around 20 months that they started having opinions about their clothes!

Your general plan sounds about right to me -- jeans, leggings, long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts. (If you get any sweaters for everyday use, you'll want them to be machine-washable and pretty sturdy.)

With highs in the 40s (that's about what it is here too), you might also want to buy a couple of fleece snowsuits. (LL Bean calls them "fleece coveralls" -- I've gotten them new on eBay for half the retail price.) They keep their whole bodies warm, are thin enough to wear in the car seat, and comfy for playing. We rarely needed real snowsuits the winter that they were around your girls' age, because they didn't really enjoy playing in the snow anyway (too cold, wet, unstable for walking on).

Also -- fleece hats with ear flaps that velcro under the chin -- they stay on and keep their faces warm too!

I think your list sounds great. You'll need coats (think warm but not bulky because of car seats. Warm winter hats. Gloves, maybe a scarf, and the snowsuits as mentioned.

I live in the Midwest, so it's cold here in the winter & my kiddos are a little younger than yours. I, however, have boys, but wanted to give you a tip that both Carters & Children's Place have nice long sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, etc. Carters, especially, has good cotton shirt/pants sets. My boys live in jeans/longsleeved shirts but also have a lot of the Carters outfits to wear, too! Make sure to have decent socks & shoes, too! I got our coats at ShopKo for cheap (they were 50% off) but like others have said...make sure they're not so bulky that they don't fit in the carseat! I also agree w/fleece hats that strap under the chin & warm, fleece, footed pjs (again, Carters & CP have nice ones). We even got fleece sheets for our cribs b/c we keep it cool in the house at night!!!! Best of luck shopping for your girls' new wardrobe!!!!

I think your list sounds fine also. We pair leggings up with long sleeved t-shirts, or sweaters. I prefer leggings/stretchy pants to jeans because they just can't move as well with jeans on.

Baby Legs with long sleeve diaper shirts for in the house. When it's time to go out throw on a skirt or romper with a light sweater.

generally in winter my girls live in sweat type outfits with either a long sleeve shirt or a turtleneck underneath. I love turtlenecks because I don't have to bother with a scarf to keep the freezing air from going down their necks and shirts. Also get some comfy warm shoes/boots to keep their little tosies toasty.
