What do you think of Leap Frog's Tag Jr?

I just heard about these recently and was thinking about getting them for my two for Christmas. Has anyone tried them? Do they hold your little one's interest as well as, or better than, a regular book? I'm torn because I think it sounds like a good idea, but it's kind of expensive and I fear it being another one of those things that get 30 seconds of attention. And I know the ramifications of getting only one Tag Jr pen, so that means twice as much $. My husband thinks it sounds like a waste because we read to our kids often, and they love books on their own. Just wondered if anyone tried them and could offer an opinion before I decide on whether or not we should buy them.

We did buy Tag Jr. for Christmas. I tried it out at the store and I think it is something that my kids would enjoy because they do like to sit and look at books on their own. I don't think it will ever replace us reading to them, they love being read to. That being said, I will definitely know for sure if it was worth it or not after Christmas.

I got one when it was on sale with a few books, because my kids don't let us read to them and just flip the pages all the time, and I figured if they realized that there is something more to a book than just turning the pages, it would be nice. They've only played with them a bit so far, but they got the concept pretty fast and seemed to enjoy it, but I think they're still too young and inexperienced with books to just sit there and play it over and over yet.

We got them for ours for Christmas, so we haven't used them yet. Mine are starting to want to look at books on their own, and they recognize that books have letters so they will sit and randomly say letters (they obviously can't recite the entire alphabet yet!). So I think they will really like that they can "read" on their own. They are at least wanting to pretend that it's something they can do. And the range is supposed to be 2-4 so I imagine that they will get even more use as they get older.

Mine do this too! They actually recognize a handful of letters on their own too, so I do think they'd be interested. But I think I'll get one for now and see if it's a hit before I buy the second.

My boys got one for their 2nd birthday in October. They seem to enjoy it. We only have one other book, besides the one it came with. I wouldn't say it's an overly huge hit, but I think as time goes on, and they get more books, it will be. I was reading it with Nicholas today, and he was repeating what he was hearing-so that's a plus!

I do love the LeapFrog line.
