when people say that their babies take a 2 or even 3 hour nap, do you mean that you put them down and don't have to go in the room again for 2 or 3 hours, or are you in and out putting them back to sleep?

just curious, I'm in the room all the time...

my boys take two 3 hour naps a day... I put them down, check on them in about 10 mins, sometime they need their paci put back in but they are sound asleep within 20 mins, and sleep for at least 3 hours. about twice a week they will take 4 to 4 1/2 hour naps. I know all kids arent like this, I think I'm one of the more lucky parents. But Good luck to you!

    i want to cry.....

to the OP, at 5-6 months my kids took around 2 hour naps...we didn't get 3 hour stretches (i still don't, the nanny does) until they went to one nap a day around 18 months old.

I haven't got a 3 hour nap for a few weeks now, but yeah, when I put them down for a nap I don't go back in, and they still regularly take 2.5 hour naps. It did require some CIO at some point though... but now they're great sleepers (unless they're overtired).

When my girls nap it means I'm not in there! I'm not claiming my girls take 3 hour naps though!

I just wondered because today the girls slept from 3pm until 5:30. they slept soundly from 3-4 but then they started waking up every 1/2 hr or so crying and they needed re-binking or a little rocking and they were asleep again. I don't think they have ever napped for longer than 1 hr without needing us to go in there to put them back to sleep to continue the nap.

I guess maybe when they are old enough for CIO then they would put themselves back to sleep if they were going to continue napping.

Olivia has been taking 3 2-hour naps...meaning I put her down and she's literally alseep (no movement, no sounds, nothing) until she wakes up 2 hours later. Now, I think she is teething...she doesn't want to eat and has been sleeping more than normal...this doesn't happen every day. Usually it's a 1 hour nap in the morning, a 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon, and a 1 hour nap late afternoon.

I put my babies down awake and and don't get them out of the room until at least 1.5hrs has passed. And normally they sleep for that entire time, but I do go through stages where they wake up at the 45min mark and cry a bit, and sometimes they go back to sleep and sometimes they don't. So generally their naps range from 1hr to 2hrs (rarely longer then 2hrs - at least not since they were about 3months old).
