What Do You Need For The First Three Months?

I'm having a shower in a week and a half (assuming I"m still doing ok!), but we are moving back to the States 3 months after the kids are born (yeah!), so I'm not setting up a nursery, and I don't want a bunch of stuff we'll just have to transport and then maybe not use if it doesn't get there in time (military movers, those of you who have done it know what I mean!). So, I've seen the list up at the top and am using that when people as what I need, telling them diapers because I"m sure I'll go through a bazillion in three months, but wondering if there is anything else that people would have wanted for just the first 3 months?

    Thanks, Erica.

A few things that pop into my mind:

    For gear:
    *infant carriers
    *double snap n go
    *travel swings (and/or bouncy seats)
    *play mat
    *baby bath tub

    For clothes:
    *onesies
    *footed sleepers

You won't need high chairs yet, which would be a large item. You don't even need cribs. Ours were still sharing a pnp-sized crib at that age.

Here are some off the top of my head:

-- Swaddling blankets (the Miracle Blanket was a GODSEND with my daughter)

-- Lots of good-quality Chinese prefold diapers (the flat ones) -- I think we had about 50. We used them as burp cloths, bibs while nursing, under her butt in the carseat (great for blowouts), to dry her off after every diaper change (she'd get a rash if we left her wet from the wipes), rolled up next to her head in the carseat, and for a million other uses. Order the best ones you can find on the internet, and they get softer and more absorbent with every washing.

-- This time around, the babies will wear Carter's Creepers for the first few months -- basically pretty onesies that snap all the way up the front. I really hate pulling onesies -- or any shirt -- over a newborn's head. Much easier to open the outfit, lay it out, and lay baby on top of it....(my daughter was a winter baby, so we did long-sleeved sleepers, but same idea -- Hanna Andersson zippers are ideal for this!)

-- If the babies will be in a crib during the first three months, I can't recommend the Ultimate Crib Sheet enough. We used it until my kiddo was more than a year, and figured out how to crawl under it.....it's just a waterproof sheet that sits on top of your crib sheet, and snaps around the crib slats. Very easy to unsnap in the middle of the night to change, instead of wrestling with the mattress.

-- Bouncy seats. We had the Fisher Price Kick n' Play, which is hard to find now. My kiddo loved it, but she never took to a swing -- YMMV.

-- For bathing, we used a plastic seat made by EuroTub in the laundry sink -- I dunno if they make it anymore, but it worked great. Much easier than bending over an actual bathtub, or draining a full baby tub.

-- Bottles, but don't buy too many, because you never know what your kiddos will like. Two each of two or three different brands might be good. Also, breastfeeding supplies like a pump, storage bags, lansinoh (buy the generic -- much cheaper!), breast pads, etc. if you will need them.

-- Pack n' play -- we had one set up on the main level of our house, so I could put the kiddo down somewhere other than her bouncy. We also did tummy time in it (it had the full bassinet thing), and on a Gymini-type mat.

I can't think of too many other things! Carseats, obviously. Pacifiers....(though same deal as bottles, you never know what the kiddos will take)....

    *Bottles
*Blankets (You'll get lots of cute fluffy ones so ask specifically for some recieving blankets for swaddling)
    *Onseies
    *Diapers
    *Bouncy seat or swings
*pacis if you are planning on trying them (my kids never took them)
    *hats
*PNP (my girls shared one until about 5 months)
    *A floor gym or 2
*lots of small toys and rattles (clear ones where they can see the balls moving are recomended so they can see what is making noise)
    *a baby 1st aide kit
    *sound soother
*meals to freeze (you could always ask for a few of these in lieu of gifts)

    Good luck with the move!

All I can think of that hasn't been listed is a monitor.

Could not have lived without our infant to toddler fisher price seats. They were and still are used daily. LOVE THEM!!
