They still get baby food fruit and veggies (if they won't eat the real thing, which is often) with meals. They are still learning to eat foods and are very picky about what they will eat. I am trying to get rid of the mid-morning bottle and am wondering what kind of snack to replace it with. Sometimes we are out and I will give them their cup (water with a splash of juice) and some cheerios and a wagon wheel. But is that enough? Am I starving my kids??

our morning snack is usually cheese and some fruit. they LOVE string cheese and do great on self-feeding, the fruit is still baby food. Yogurt is another good snack (for us).

Something with some protein (usually cheese or yogurt), some sort of starch (goldfish crackers, crackers, cheerios), and some fruit.

When we were in the transition between baby food and table food we ate lots of quickbreads (zucchini, blueberry, banana, bran...). I made them in little mini muffin tins and then froze them in ziploc freezer bags. I'd put a couple on the counter at bfast and they'd be ready by snack. If you're wanting them to get protein, I also made mini quiches with the muffin tins and they froze well (you can also easily sneak in some veggies if you have a food processor).

Not a cook? Just buy the mini muffins. They also make mini quiches in the frozen food aisle.

Can yours drink through a straw? We make them yogurt fruit smoothies about 3 times a week. They LOVE them. You can also add all sorts of 'goodies' (flax oil, etc) to these.

If they haven't leared the straw thing yet, here's my straw tip:
    1. Let them watch you do it.
    2. Suck on their finger so they can feel how you do it.
    3. Put the straw in their mouth and then use your index finger to hold their bottom lip to the straw until they get the hang of it.

Ooops, I got distracted and realized I didn't answer your actual question.

I think if you nix the bottle you'll find their appetite will adjust accordingly. They'll either make up for it by having a better appetite at bfast/lunch or eat a heartier snack. All kids are different, so if they aren't getting too cranky between meals I'd say they aren't starving at all.

We usually don't do a morning snack. They don't eat lunch well when we do. If we are out at a store, I will give them pretzel sticks or goldfish. When they ask at home, I will give them pretzel sticks

Morning snack here is yogurt, and some kind of cereal or goldfish thing, and sometimes a half a banana or some fruit cocktail. They aren't real big on actual fruit that hasn't been at least partly processed yet, but will not eat fruit baby food anymore. Veggie baby food, yes, though.

We don't do morning snack between breakfast and lunch. If they did my twins would not be able to finish their healthy lunch meal. But we do give them their afternoon snack such as goldfish, rice krispies treats, graham crackers, animals crackers, fruit, jello (sugar free), applesauce (sugar free), fig cookies, string of cheese, and etc.

I give them fruit and cheese, fig newtons (these organic kind from Whole Foods - they LOVE them), graham crackers, or cheerios. My babies love fruit the most.

A mid-morning snack can be pretty minimal. The goal is just to get them from breakfast to lunch. We tend to give them Nutrigrain bars or muffins, because we're often out & about, and that's easy. At school they get cereal & milk, or cheese & crackers and an orange -- something like that.
