my fil is offering to buy the girls highchairs for xmas. i know it's early but i also know he won't get them later if he doesn't get them now. we will pick them out and he will pay for them.
i have no idea what to look for in a highchair and don't have much time to research this. any advise? what do you use? are you happy with yours?
i read in one of my twin books that they are not necessary but rather it is easier to feed babies in car seats and then get a toddler table when they can sit up. what do you think of this? can we avoid the highchair all together? should we?
    tia.

We never got a high chair per say, we just just have the booster seats that fit on the chairs and that is what we use. They do make some that recline back so you can use them earlier when the babies are sitting yet. We just went straight to the booster seats because they will use these for a few years. We had a high chair for DD #1, but it was a waste of money as she outgrew it pretty quickly and then we had to get a booster seat like we have now for the twins. So this time we just bypassed the high chair all together. IMO, you can get away with just getting booster seats if you want, there are many different ones out there.

If I had chairs that I could put the booster seats on - I'd do that. Mine are the bar stools and booster seats won't stay on. So we've got FisherPrice, the ones that come with 2 extra trays - very convinient.

    thank you for your replies.
please tell me though- what is a booster seat? here in the other side of the world i'm not always sure what the baby terminology is!
is it like a car seat? and this you just place on a regular chair? could you give me a link showing what you are talking about? thank you again.

Yep, those are the chairs that we have. I just set them on the table now and I sit in the chair in front of them to feed solids. They can do a bottle if they turn their heads to the side (not ideal), but they can do the sippy cup without having to turn their heads. We still do bottles in the bouncy seats.

We started with the Fisher Price space saver high chairs, the booster-seat style (this one http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...00000001353000) We did NOT like these at all and just returned them. I know many people like them, but for us, we thought they took up more room than a high chair because you cannot pull them all the way up to the table. Unless you can get them to squeeze under your table, you will end up with 2 chairs always pushed all the way out, which totally defeats the "space saving" feature. We also struggled to use the reclining feature, because you have to put the seat all the way at the end of your chair to have enough room - and it seemed unsafe/unstable to me.

We just received our new Chicco Polly highchairs and I LOVE them! They are adorable - very classy designs, not "cartoony" like many I've seen in the stores. They have every feature we were looking for including a 5-point safety harness, ability to lower and raise the chair, ability to remove the tray with one hand, dishwasher safe tray with removable insert, vinyl washable pad, adjustable footrest, lockable wheels to move it around the kitchen easily, and reclining/adjustable seats. The arms on this high chair raise up and we can actually pull it all the way in to our table!

This chair has it all and looks great too. Highly recommended. We purchased the "Woodstock" style. Paid $95 each with no tax and free shipping at the site below.

I got my highchairs at a 2nd hand store, and I know they don't make that style anymore. But I LOVE having them! It makes lunchtime so much easier.....I just put them in their highchairs both facing me and I'll give them their bottles & then some baby food. And I can sit & relax and watch tv. [IMG] But they also like sitting in them when they get bored on the floor & can watch me while I'm doing dishes, making dinner, etc. I really do like having them.

I have the booster seats and high chairs. (both were shower gifts) I keep the boosters mainly for when we go somewhere but I haven't used them yet. I do love the highchairs. I can stick them in there and they can watch me clean up the kitchen and I can roll them around the kitchen. I have on by Graco. It's sort of like this but a different fabric: http://www.gracobaby.com/catalog/product.a...GG&CategoryID=4

We have the First Years boosters, and really like them. They strap onto a regular kitchen chair. And you could also set them on the floor or counter if you needed the extra chairs. They are easy to clean and have nice, very washable(I wash them almost daily!)fabric covers. They recline too. Our space is limited, so these are a good choice for us!
