Baby powder is great for after playing in the sand/sandbox. Have them rub their hands together, or you do it, and it takes the sticky sand residue right off. It works for feet and legs also. Baby oil is just for taking mascara off. You may need that when your kids begin to copy mom.
I use the baby oil after baths or just to give them massages. Well now they don't stay still long enough for massages, but at your babies age I was still doing them. Baby powder, I still haven't used my container of it. Mona
Powder can be nice if you have cubby legs, which my girls did, and the creases get chapped. The dry air, sensitive skin and the diaper area can make it terribly uncomfortable for them, so I would put in some powder to help the skin slide a little more. Baby oil...don't have any....maybe to clean up marker scribbles off the wall?
We use the baby powder after we go to the beach. Dusts the sand right off!!! We also used it on their neck folds when they were infants so they would not get all rashy.
Baby powder is a good shoe freshner and as PP said baby oil removes mascara...you may be able to use the baby oil for that squeaky door hinge? If this were 20 yrs ago while I was in high school, I would have said add iodine to the baby oil and use as a tanning oil...how far have we come?
adding to your question: is baby powder indeed safe for babies? i think i read that it is a suffocation risk because it can get in their lungs. or maybe that was a specific type of powder? have you heard anything like this?
I have heard the same about baby powder, that it should never be used near the face since it can get inhaled into the lungs. I think it's fine for the other uses- cleaning hands of sand etc, as long as big puffs don't go in the air around baby.
We also got some of these items as gifts. I used the baby oil when they had icky scalps as newborns, but now we are using it after baths. It's supposed to absorb well after baths when the skin is still a little damp. We'll go back to using lotion when it gets warmer.
You can make homemade wipes using baby wash and baby oil, and I use baby powder a lot in the summer to make them feel less sticky and yucky. I sprinkle a bit of powder on my hands (away from the babies) and then rub it on them like lotion, making sure to get their creases well. You can also use baby powder as a "dry shampoo" if you can't get to the shower and you have greasy hair. Sprinkle a bit in your hands and rub it around in your hair then bend over and give your hair a good fluffing. The trick is not to use too much or you will look like a little old lady.
Baby powder that contains Talc can cause cancer, but most baby powders made today contain cornstarch. Just check the ingredients list to be sure it doesn't contain Talc or Talcum Powder. And as a common sense precaution you should avoid letting babies breathe in any powder, dust or smoke. It can irritate their lungs.
Baby powder I use it after every diaper change I put it in there diaper to help keep them from breaking out as for we had alot of break down at the beginning because they are can't have anything but Huggie's and they still break down from them as well sometimes. Baby oil I use to use it on there heads to keep cradle cap from forming but now it just sits on the self in there room.
We also received quite a few bottles of both. We use the baby oil all over their bodies after a bath. We haven't used the baby powder yet.
good post!! I have 5 bottles of powder - all unopenedand 3 baby oils that I was unsure what to do with! I also have several baby lotions and 10,000 Q tips!!!!???? popular shower gifts!!!!
If your babies have a diaper rash, put on desitin and then sprinkle with powder and then it doesn't all rub off on the diaper. Works like a charm! Otherwise...I saved my baby oil (never used) and gave it to a friend when she had her first baby! Haha! I think it's a conspiracy...people buy it but don't know why?? Sounds iffy to me!
We use baby powder in the crease of their necks after bathtime. This helps keep it dry and takes away the redness. I will sure have to be careful after reading about suffocation. I dont have any suggestions for the baby oil.

We always sprinkle a little bit on bottoms after diaper changes & have had very few diaper rashes. Also, dh always sprinkles a little in the bottom of the trash can to help with smells. I use it myself sometimes after a shower! Helps get rid of that sticky feel. Haven't actually tried this, but a girl once told me she put baby powder in her hair & then combed it really good so it wouldn't look greasy. Who knows?
