I am at a loss for what to do with awake babies who are not hungry or sleepy... they don't like just hanging out :(

Mine are exactly 2 months old. I struggled with this also. When they aren't tired I try to put them next to each other and they usually end up staring at one another, then they'll laugh or hit each other in the head. They obviously don't mean to but it's cute to watch. I will also try tummy time, or I just sit and talk to them on the floor (sometimes I feel crazy). That way they are fimiliar with my voice and I smile at them a lot, they smile HUGE now and sometimes coo at me when they smile too. I sing little songs like you are my sunshine, and itsy bitsy spider- however they just stare at me and then I feel like an idiot. I like taking them for walks too because they look around a lot and I love to be outside.

Tummy time, take them on a walk, swing, bouncy seat, play on the floor with an activity mat. I think that's about what we did.

Hold them, rock them, definitely put them on the activity mat. In fact we had our boys on the floor a lot. They were either on a blanket or on the mat almost all the time they weren't sleeping. I also sang to them, and took a lot of pictures :)

I took them for a walk everyday, of course they fell asleep everytime, but that was part of the goal.

tummy time and lots of it! reading is one of the best things you can do for them and just look at them making goofy faces, sounds...etc.

When you say reading and tummy time? Do you mean doing this through the crying? If NicoleMarieLG's are like my 2-monthers, they are crying most of the time if they are not being held. I have tried reading - do I just do it through the tears and they start to get more into it? I am very interested in this question.

My two are the same way, crying alot when not being held. It is starting to get a little better in that they will sometimes lie together on a blanket for a few minutes and interact with me, but not very long at a time. More often than not, if I put them down they start crying...is this still normal at this stage?

if your girls are only a month old they should be doing more sleeping than anything else. a lot of eating and sleeping...that's it! ;)

We spend our days in the living room. So one thing I like to do is turn on the digital music channels on the TV throughout different times of the day. For me, it’s usually the 80’s channel on in the background. I sing to them, sometimes we dance, sometimes I’m motivated to do crunches to the fast songs (sometimes!). And sometimes we even shake things up and turn on the 90’s stations or (gasp) party favorites. :p It adds some variety to the hours of baby stuff.

Maybe it just entertains me - not them - but I'm certainly in a better mood, which is way more fun for them!

You know you actually can do some tummy time while holding them.

We did this all the time. You can lay on the floor or recline in a chair, and put them on your chest. A lot of babies will try to lift their heads to look at you.

At that age mine loved to be on the floor on a mat. I'd hold a toy up for them to see or sing or talk to them. Walks in the stroller were also a good thing.

I think that is about the time when we started doing patty cake type things. They loved the feel of their arms moving, touching their own faces etc. We also did "baby exercises" to help with head strength etc.

My girls are 2 1/2 months old and we are doing tummy time, swing, bouncy seat, activity mat. They have periods where they just want to be held. I have read to them or sing silly little songs about the day or what I'm doing. They really don't interact with each other too much but they love to just sit and look around too. Their favorite thing to look at...the ceiling fan, on or off.
