What do you do when this happens?

I just put my boys down for a nap about 20 minutes ago. They are still awake - 20 minutes later - talking, laughing, playing with their blankeys and glow worms. They've never done this before - usually they cry for 1 or 2 minutes and go to sleep!

They were acting tired (it had been about 2.5 hours from when the woke up - and they usually last anywhere from 2.5-3 hours) and when I asked them if they were ready for a nap they laughed, smiled, and waved "bye bye". So, I know they were ready for nap - but they aren't asleep yet.

Do you just leave your babies/toddlers in their cribs when they do this? Do you get them up and then put them back down an hour later? What works best for you and your babies/toddlers?

    Thanks! :)

I'd leave them alone, too....after they have "played out" that last little burst of energy, I'm betting they will go to sleep.

I just let them be as well. If they are still up after an hour I go up and get them!

Glad you got one down, hope the other one does the same soon!

You guys were right! They are both asleep now. Took about 40 minutes for Sullivan to fall asleep. Must have been having a lot of fun today in there. It threw me off, I'm used to them throwing a fit when I put them down for a nap and then falling asleep in less than 5 minutes - not laughing and playing for 1/2 hour until they fall asleep. Strange stuff happening here. :D

I leave them be for up to an hour. Of course, they may be due for a schedule change depending on their age. I imagine you will go down to one nap at some point.

Mine do that every nap time. It ends in someone throwing their paci across the room and screaming. I go in, give the paci back, lie the baby down and tell her sternly "it's nap time". Most of the time I have to do that once for each baby and then they go to sleep.

I would let them go, at least if they don't nap they are still having some down time as are you.
