Wow! I don't have an answer really- but we changed my daughter to a big girl bed at 18 months and she did wonderfully- but, I don't think that'd be the answer with twins!!! I think my boys will have to be about 3 before I change them out of the cribs. That said-do you have another room to put her crib- to separate the girls- that might help?? I hope somehow you get the right answer- it is so tough!! Best wishes

We moved our oldest to a bed when he was 20 months old and he did great. However, I did wean him from our bed into the crib ( with some CIO) a few months before he got into the bed. I do not know how she'll handle going from sleeping with you to sleeping alone in a big bed. I will mention that we moved the bed in his room and he had the choice to sleep in his crib or the new bed. He chose the bed and never when back. He also never, ever got out of the bed until we came in to get him in the morning until he was over 3 yrs old. I don't know why he was soo good about that because he is not good about much else!

My best friend moved her son at 18 months to a bed and he did great too. She had to sleep in the room with him for 2 or 3 days, but he adjusted fine. Not all kids are good about beds, but I think the younger they are the easier it is because they aren't so focused on what they can get into and they are more likely to want to please you. However, I intend to keep my twins in their cribs until they out grow them! I can't imagine the damage they will inflict on their room.

I hope that helps some. Only you know if she's ready. If she is coming to your bed to be with you, a bed in her room probably won't fix the issue and you'll have to resort to "sleep training" her to her room, which will not be fun but is worth it. I love having my bed back. Take care!

I wouldn't say she's too young for a bed. I'm putting it off as long as possible b/c my boys are stubborn game players and I simply don't have the energry to deal with it until it is an absolute necessity. But it sounds like the things you have tried haven't worked....how much worse could it be?

Would you have to do both girls, or could you do just one? (That might make the transition easier if there aren't two of them partying together?

i dont know what to do... i think she wants to sleep with us for the security reasons.. she loves the bed.. but i want my bed back..when i do the cio which i dont mind b/c im tired of laying in my bed with her until she falls asleep which in this case tonight was 2 hrs... but when i do the cio thing with her ..she starts banging her head to hurt herself on the crib so that i do go in there.. so i dont know what to do..also their cribs convert into toddler beds...or do i just go to a twin bed. ???? i feel like i cant talk to anyone b/c everyoen i know with one kid doesnt understand.

My two went into a twin bed(together) on their second birthday. It went great for us. It was the first time (or very nearly) Ian slept through the night!

My boys went to toddler beds (really just took the rail off the cribs) at 20 mos. There was never an issue, they stayed in bed and slept through the night...I say give it a shot, you can always go back.

I have been thinking about moving my 18 month old to a twin bed..she is getting up at 4:30 when dh gets ready for work, so I get in the twin bed in her room with her and she goes right back to sleep...then I barracade her with pillows and sneak out to my own bed. When she wakes up she just sits up and yells "mama!".

    Either way...Good Luck!!!

You stated that she bangs her head until you come get her. Well guess what her attention getting works, she won! She won't bang her head so hard she will injure herself, or if she does it once she won't do it again. Stick to your guns and leave her in her crib. You have to be the stronger, more stubborn one here or she will be in your bed for a long time to come. She has learned a little head banging gets her what she wants. Be strong, if needed tell her "we do not bang heads" but don't take her out of her crib.

I was going to say this too.

I know it must be torture for you to hear it. I say wrap/pad her crib with towels/blankets adn let her learn the hard way. Probably will help if you jump in the shower or turn on your ipod so you don't have to listen to it. :(

Mt niece used to bang her head.... she slept with mom and day until agae 6 ! The only thing that got her out of the bed was to be a big girl with her sisters. She is using the head banging to get your attention. Can you put a breathable crib bumper so she can't ang hard with a crib tent so she can't climb out ? I know it is hard to watch her "hurt" herself for your attention, but I agree with the above poster she is playing you. Good luck, update us on how things go !

How about placing pillows or folded up towels in between the crib tent and the sides of the crib? Then you won't have to worry about her hurting herself while trying to bang her head.
