What did you wear in the hospital during/after delivery?

This is a two-part question: I'm starting to think about packing my bag (28 weeks today!) and wondering what you wore if anything while you delivered (I'm hoping NOT to have a C-section!), and even more, what did you wear while you were in the hospital.

I'm planning on BFing, but don't know if there are such things as nursing pj's (I'm not the nightgown type), or if i just use regular pj's and have a shawl or something to cover if I want when we have visitors?

This seems so mundane and nitty-gritty but - it's one of the few things I can control at this stage, so I'm clinging to it!

    Many thanks.

With the twins, I just wore the hospital gown for delivery. I had to pretty much stay in the bed anyway because they needed to monitor the babies with my induction and complications. For this next delivery, I bought a couple of nightgowns on clearance that I am planning on wearing during labor. They will probably get ruined but it's no big deal because they were cheap and I'm not a nightgown person either. It's just so much more personal to wear my own clothes than a hospital gown.

After delivery, I also wore the hospital gown and then I had black socks of my own. I would like to wear nursing pjs this time but I'm hesitant to because the "flow" after birth is so heavy that they'll probably get ruined.

I also wore a nightgown b/c it was convenient for bf'ing. Honestly, you probably aren't going to care if you are in a nightgown or pj's, just so long as your comfortable.

First of all congrats on reaching 28 weeks....what a milestone...

I too stressed about this....I am not a "nightgown" girl...but everyone kept saying I NEED ONE! So I bought a nursing nightgown and a robe...didn't really use them. I would suggest a nursing camesole and your regular robe with some pj pants that fit while pregnant. I loved my nursing camesole (bought at Target). I lived in it the 8 weeks I nursed. ..actually I would get a few if I were you.
    Well...hope this helps...

    Good luck...

I wore the hospital gowns on both occasions. Why mess up your own stuff, you're going to bleed either way. [IMG] It is nice to have your own slippers and pillow though.

Very smart to pack your bag! My water broke at 30 weeks, and I was not prepared, so I had my mom and sister bring things to the hospital after I delivered (wore the hospital gown until then). One thing I would highly recommend is bringing some socks. My feet were cold, and I didn't want them touching the hospital floor! Also, I would bring a nursing wrap sleep bra (bought mine at Motherhood) and nursing pads. At night I wore a nightgown, but during the day (when visitors were in the room) I wore pjs that were pants (loose fitting) and a button down pj top which I could unbutton to pump (or you could unbutton to breastfeed). I wore the nursing bra underneath for some support, but it was very comfortable.

I wore the hospital gown for the delivery c-section. Then wore loose pants and top like pjs for the rest of my stay. I wore my nursing bra all the time and just lifted up my shirt to pump my girls were in the NICU for 2 weeks. Congratulations! I think it is a good idea to have your bag packed now! You never know. I didn't have a bag packed and ended up in the hospital for 3 days at 28 weeks and my dh had to bring me everything. Not what I really wanted he is terrible at packing. After that I made sure my bag was packed!

I just wore the hospital stuff. I figured why mess up my clothes when I could mess up theirs??? And I had planned on vaginal delivery but after 27 hours of labor ended up with a C, so you never know!!! I did have my robe from home which was a godsend, I wore it over the hospital gown when I had company or just wanted to feel cozy.

I wore the hospital gown during labour and after I was able to get to my room I wore sweatpants or pj bottoms (low rise in case you end up having a c-section so they don't rub on the incision) and t-shirts. I found it easier to lift the t-shirt and bf the babies. I think the nursing tops that have slits in them are a challenge to navigate and hold in place.
The babies were born mid august in Greece (think very hot) and I still needed a sweatshirt at night. Something about giving birth makes some women feel very cold- like they're in shock so I suggest something warm and warm socks in case you need them.
Also, my feet swelled up after labour (they hadn't during pregnancy) and I couldn't fit into my shoes so you might want to pack loose slippers.

Yes, when we went home, I had like 4 blankets on me and my husband had the sheet & was hot! I just used the hospital gown at the hosp. DIdn't want to get any of my stuff soiled!

I would pack a robe. Like others, I wore the hospital gown until the day I was discharged, but since Jake was in the Nicu, I felt more comfortable visiting him with a robe on. While I was in my room, the hospital gown was fine and as others said, more conveinient. It was hard enough to get dressed to go home!

One other word of advice, I bought big granny panties (at the suggestion of someone else on this forum) to wear after the c-section. By day 2, I was using them "over" the disposable undewear, it helped keep the dressing on my incision in place and generally felt better than just the dispoable underwear.

I wore the hospital gowns. I had terrible night sweats so it was nice to have a clean one every day and an extra if I needed to change in the night,
I also had my robe from home, it was nice to wear when there were visitors so I didn't feel so naked.

Don't forget to grab couple of packs of disposable panties at the pharmacy - so convenient!

I wore a nursing nightgown for one day, but put on some smaller maternity clothes that had fit me in a previous pregnancy, not with the twins!! (capris and a t-shirt, etc.) for the rest of my hospital stay then. I didn't find the nursing gown helpful for double nursing (the holes weren't big enough for use at the same time [IMG]) and I just preferred to lift up my shirt to nurse. I LOVED the disposable panties they provided, and asked for more. I wore them for probably two weeks after delivery because they were so much more comfortable and didn't bother my incision site like regular panties did.

we had a vag delivery and after i showered before most of our visiters came i put on my own pj bottoms (my fuzzy pants) and a nursing tank top under the hospital gown. I would do the same thing again. The hospital gown has slits in it for brestfeeding so i was not wanting to flash my family and friend when they came to visit [IMG] I also put on my socks and had a pair of slip on slippers for walking the halls. This is what i wore the whole time in the hospital (i had several of the tank tops) I had clothes to go home in but ended up just wearing my fuzzy pants, slippers, tank top and a hooded sweatshirt. I was to sore to try and get my other clothes on [IMG] Good Luck cant wait to read your birth story!!

I wore the hospital gown for delivery and the first day in the hospital. I found a nightgown on clearance at Kohls that I wore on day 3 and pjs that I wore on day 4 (i'm not a nightgown person either). They do make nursing pjs.

I wore the hospital gown but put my own robe over it. It was convenient to wear their gowns but comfy with my own robe. Next time, I may buy a few nightgowns. It is more comfortable to wear your own stuff.

I wore the hospital gown the whole time. I had my own robe that I wore when I was up walking around. I brought comfy sweats to wear but never put them on since not only was I still huge, but they are coming in a checking you constantly.

I bought two nursing gowns with robes and intended to wear those. With all the bleeding I ended up wearing the hospital gown with one of the robes over it. The last day I couldn't take that gown anymore and wore comfy shorts and a big t-shirt. I say take what you think you'll be comfortable in, and then you can always send DH home to get something else for you. Good luck with your birth experience!!!

    I had a planned c-section - and I am not a gown person either!
the day of my c-section I wore the hospital gown after that I wore a pair of loose fitting pjs and no bra so when I breastfed I just lifted my shirt and used a receiving blanket to cover if I had visitors. I got a nursing gown at my shower but NEVER wore it!
I just packed 3 pair of loose pjs
4 pair of undies although I ended up wearing the disposable ones from the hospital.
    4 pair of socks
    and a pair of slippers
and I took my nursing bras but never wore them in the hospital

    CONGRATULATIONS on 28 weeks!!!

Jordari...hey there. I usually talk to you over at expecting, but it's nice to know I'm not the only expecting mom who checks out what these ladies are going through.

Here's what I wore at the hospital with my ds. I still have these pj's and wear them all the time. They don't look like nursing pj's at all, and I think they're super cute. plus, they're black, so if you're leaking various goo all over them, you won't have stains.

Hmm, my hospital provided me with these and sent me home with dozens of them.

I agree that using the hospital gowns is nice, in that you aren't ruining anything and you get a clean one everyday. I don't recommend sweatpants or any pants if you have a c/s because it will rub on your abdomen and HURT.

I loved having my big terry bathrobe and slippers; although I ended up sending DH home with MY slippers and bringing me HIS, since my feet swelled up so badly after the delivery.

I wore the hospital gown my entire stay. Since I was in bed so much it was just easier and comfortable to wear the hospital gown especially with the nurses coming in to check on my incision (from the c-section).

I had a c-section at 32 weeks and all I wore was a hospital gown for the whole 5 days that I was there. Which was fine for me because when I went home the pants I had on were killing my stomach.
