I ripped several holes in DD's PNP today (in the mesh). We use the PNPs a lot for travelling. I'm just not sure I want to invest in a new one now that the twins are 21 months. What would be next for sleeping while on the road?

My kids can and will sleep on anything. My concern is them wandering around in non-childproofed areas at night or while I am in the shower.

Just over 2, we went to air mattresses. Luckily we were ready to transition to beds so they did fine. :good: Maybe you can try something out at home first?

Air mattresses, or we got these Travel cots that we used this summer and they worked fantastic! We did the switch to toddler beds so they were used to not wandering around too much, and we didn't have too many problems with them wandering in the hotels :) And once they fell asleep they didn't get up at all overnight.

I know some people use Peapods to zip their kids up at night when traveling, but I'm not sure how big they are and how long you can use them. My guys are over 3 and we still use the PnPs when traveling; they sleep great in them! :good: Of course they're still in cribs at home, so it's very similar.

You can get used PnPs on Craigslist for ridiculous prices. My sister just got one for her grand-daughter for like $30!

We used pnps until they were 3 (reserved them at hotels or borrowed from friends/family). After that, they just slept in beds like at home.

If you travel a lot, I would try to get a used PnP. It would be worth the money for the peace of mind.

The first time either of mine slept in something with no sides, it was Sarah (at my parent's house) on a mattress on the floor at 23 months, and she rolled off at least 6x during the night. She never even woke up (she's a very heavy sleeper), but it was a little nerve-wracking for me. And I had to lie with her to get her to fall asleep, though that might have been more because of the unfamiliar setting than because of the mattress itself.

We are on an extended visit to the Grandparent's house and are using the PeaPod Plus travel beds with great success. There was an adjustment period though, I think they didn't like the fact that they couldn't stand up, but now that they are used to them, they work great. They are also big, and I forsee being able to use them for several more years. Make sure you get the "plus" version.

I like the mesh cots that are about 2 inches off the floor, like the ones used in most daycares. I found them on-line at a daycare supply warehouse-type store. They stack on top of each other so are easy to transport and slide under a bed for storage.

I was wondering the same thing because mine climb out of the pnp's so easily that it's not even worth it to put them in anymore. They may end up having to stay at my parents house when the new baby comes so i need to figure it out in the next month or so!

I was also going to suggest Peapods. We are not travelers, everyone lives here in our city and we haven't attempted a vacation yet but I have friends who LOVE peapods.

We had some holes that ripped in ours... so we duct tapped them :) Classy, I know, but we didn't want to invest in anymore. This past summer we went camping and they shared an air mattress, we just had to learn to trust :)

We have kid sized air mattresses that are raised around the edges. Keep in mind that PNPs have a weight limit, which is why we thought it was time to move on.

Good point. Of course my guys are still ~27lbs. each, so this won't be an issue for a while! ;)

I think our weight limit was 30 pounds. Mine are 32 and 33 pounds respectively and we weighted out of the PNP or got close like 9 months ago.

For local (within a 4 hour car ride) travel, we pack up their crib mattresses and use those. For something extended, we are going to just put them in a bed. It takes a while the first night but they will get it.
