Nefeli today surprised me by being very afraid of a sweatshirt of mine!! It had a strongly contrasting colourful print on it and I guess that's what freaked her out. As soon as a changed it everything was fine again. I have never seen her afraid before! Except when there is a loud sound or she is afraid of falling but that is reflex.
That got me wondering. Is it strange that she was afraid? What are other babies afraid of? Are there different things at different times or some things that consistently scare your babies? How would you deal with it? (i.e. not wear the sweatshirt for a little while or wear it again tommorrow am when she is less tired)

My babies don't like yelling. I mean really yelling like at a barking dog or a squaking bird.

Eli rarely gets scared of things but occasionally a really loud sound.

Cooper on the other hand. ANYTIME Dh sneezes(just him) he gets the huge pouty lips/face and the tears start coming. Strangers freak him out ocassionally. At church this past Sunday he started to cry/pouty face anytime we would start to sing.

Mine were scared of the Vaccuum and still are. Also, the fuzzy loud thing on the TV when you put it on the wrong channel, they are scared of that.

The vacuum, baseball caps on mommy or others (but not daddy) and just about anyone that isn't mommy, daddy or grandma #1 (my MIL). They are terrified of my father and used to be scared of my mom too, but that was only because they weren't around that much but have started to come see them more now that they are moving out of state. Mine are afraid of hats....toques, ball hats and hoods. Doesn't matter who wears them they hate it with the exception of their Daddy. He can wear hats most of the time with no problem but as soon as something is on anyone elses head they freak.

I think my DS has excellent hearing because he jumps a mile at any sudden or loud noise.

My girls aren't really scared of anything. But once in a while they get scared of strangers.

Both have pretty strong stranger anxiety lately, and Grace is scared of the vacuum cleaner. Oh, and Lily was afraid of a new bath toy I bought a while back.

For the first 2 or so years of his life, my cousins little boy was scared of masks. Halloween those years was interesting. [IMG]

mine tend to have a great deal of stranger anxiety lately...especially men with facial hair. this is terrible...i know...but my three year old has this cheap little pirate costume that i gave her for valentines day. she loves to put it on and scare one of the twins! one of the twins could care less, and if my dd does not get an immediate reaction out of a twin, she goes directly to the next (they are identical and she cannot tell them apart yet), knowing full well that the next twin MUST be the one taht is scared of the pirate beard!!! poor little gracie...her lips pout up, her eyebrows furrow, and huge tears start pouring, and then the cries start and her hands shake! it is so terrible...but i just had to let her show my dh and my mom...makes us laugh...the whole situation, but i wont let her scare her anymore! of course, now dd thinks gracie is always scared, so she is always putting something on her face to scare her!
