I have had two proper cravings so far I think, they were totally crazy out-of-the-blue NEEDS not wants :D

I woke up at about 1am the other night desperate for Twisties - for those not familiar these are a weird cheesey snack, made from corn I think. I haven't eaten them since I was about six. I very nearly woke up DH and packed him off to the shop. When I told him about it in the morning he very sweetly said he would have been delighted to go. Aw.

The other one was yesterday for mint slice biscuits - chocolate covered bickies with a layer of delicious mint cream. It was nuts I tried to ignore it but it wouldn't go away, every time I stopped concentrating on something specific my first thought was: hmmmm... mint slice.

anyone else had some crazy cravings?

hmmm... mint slice biscuits sound like a perfectly normal craving to me.

I'm personally craving lots of chocolate, but you're probably not asking me! :p

DW isn't craving anything odd yet, but she has been eating 'normal' foods that she otherwise would never touch. Fish sticks and steak fingers come to mind.

I can understand the fish craving - I never normally eat McDonalds but have found myself pulling into the drive through a few times recently desperate for a fillet of fish... might be the tartare sauce I'm really after though.

can't say I've ever heard of steak fingers... american thing?

hey - great web site by the way, what a neat idea!

I figured it would be awhile before they could put their own website up, so I may as well do it for them. :D

Steak-fingers... I'm not really sure. I've never been tempted myself. I think they are more-or-less like fish sticks: square cut beef, breaded and fried. Yum! I don't know that I had ever seen them before moving to Texas, so it might even be local to this region. Of course, we also have fried jalapenos and pickles too, so I'm not complaining. You wouldn't think fried pickles would be good, but they are. It's probably because the frying oil is awash in meat flavor.

Do you have Long John Silvers? If you want 'good' deep fried fast-food fish, that's the place. They even have malt vinegar out, but that might not go over well with the pregnant nose.

I feel the same way. For 21 weeks, I've been starving, but I don't like food. I really hope one of these days I actually crave something...

  8. For the past month, I've been all about strawberries dipped inpeanut butter....nummmy! I am usually a major seafood lover and that is my biggest aversion so far!

Overall, most food doesnt appeal to me but lately I have been dying for lemon bars. You know the lemon dessert things with the crust at the bottom. I dont think you can get them in London. I'm going to have my husband bring me home a tart au citron. That may satisfy me.

I wish I could have some cravings, I don't even feel like eating I just have to force it. Actually if I start thinking about a food, it makes me sick, so my poor husband has to just make me something or bring me something and put it down infront of me without warning, then I can put some of it away at least. I who have always struggled with my weight and have been on one diet after another, find myself in unknown territory, I might as well be living on the moon. I hope this changes, enjoying food is a major pleasure that I really miss.

I want anything and everything--unless I have to fix it  No, really, our grocery bill is going thru the roof and I cannot keep anything in the house. 1st trimester, I actually craved green veggies--how wierd is that! I had told some ladies at church and they just brought me a box full of veggies from their garden on wed.--lettuces, beets, radishes, and peas. she said she'd gone out in Feb. and planted the peas when I mentioned my craving for them! How sweet is that! I have been eating them raw
(and getting the kids to enjoy them also), but steaming them last night in the pods with butter and salt--WONDERFUL!! Our growing family of 6 also ate almost an entire 9x13 breakfast casserole.
My usual, ice cream, makes it into late night snacks as much as we can afford. One day, coming home from a dr. appt., I stopped at a Braum's (for those of you not in the midwest USA, this is like a burger joint--they produce their own milk, beef, etc. and are known for their ice cream) and I devoured a 1/3lb cheeseburger with the fixins, fries, and chocolate shake--this was the MOST delicious burger I have tasted in SOO long!! (usually, fast food is a cheapie $1 McDonald's burger) I was mmhhing and ohhhing so much, it was like the Hardee's commercials we personnally despise so much--almost orgasmic, although I'm sure not so appealing to those that might have seen me
I wanted stuff with my other singleton pregnancies, but these cravings and "needs" for certain types of foods is incredible!!!! I've never craved so many different things in my life! I'll let you know if something wierder than green veggies ever happens

Fruits and veggies mostly. Carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers. Spaghetti is one of my biggest cravings.

Wow, I'm jealous. That was like a love story to food. I must say, I miss food. I have to make myself eat. Ugh. I thought eating everything in sight was meant to be the perk of this.

So sorry you aren't able to enjoy food much! I don't seem to be gaining that much though and think I'm still not getting enough calories....it's just too expensive to eat that much!!

Listen, you just keep eating and posting stories about it. I can live vicariously through you!! :clapping:

Perfect example -- this morning I was so weak that I was nearly faint, hadnt eaten anything yet. My fridge is STUFFED with food. Literally. My husband does the food shopping and the man is insane -- he buys the entire grocery store. There is all manner of pasta, soup, pizza, cheeses, breads, fruit, veggies, etc. crammed into my fridge. What did I finally make myself eat? Toast. And I'm not even sick or anything. Its depressing.

We were eating some Zataran's pasta stuff (it was given to us--not normally a frozen meal/name-brand buyer), it has all sorts of peppers and onions in with the char-broiled chicken and spiral pasta (New Orlean's style, I think it said). Well, I am normally NOT a spicy food person and have just learned to cook with peppers and mushrooms for my dh (i.e., one skillet of eggs with and one without as we are split down the middle of who eats the spicy stuff and who doesn't). I LOVED the pasta and even remarked that it wasn't too hot--my 8yo dd barely touched hers and my dh looked at me like I was nuts and asked what was wrong. Apparently it was pretty spicy, but it just really tasted good to me!! How ODD!!
And I'm still hungry.....but all I really want is junk food or ice cream.......

I have no clue what a "tart au citron" means  but I did find this recipe for lemon bars you might want to try! I'm not much in the kitchen, but they look simple enough to try, maybe.......

This pregnancy I have to force myself to eat. Nothing ever sounds good, and cooking makes me sick when I smell the food. I'm constantly complaining that I'm hungry but nothing sounds or tastes good. When I was pregnant with my son I ate everything!! I craved teryaki kabobs and watermelon... And oh green salads with hard boiled eggs and crackers!!! mmm.. Those were good.. This time around meat in general makes me so nauseous it's frustrating..

    I miss eating good food....
