I hate to tell you this, but stretch marks are genetic. There's nothing you can do to prevent them if you're genetically pre-disposed. Lotions and vitamin E creams can take out the itch, but that's about it. Good luck!

I practically bathed in lotions and potions during my pregnancy and STILL ended up with them - I don't think there is much you can do!! GOOD LUCK!

I wasn't doing much except lotioning my belly, until my sister who got stretch marks with her other two children, told me she had been using an oil based salt scrub on her belly during her recent pregnancy, and since she doesn't have any new stretch marks, I thought I'd give it a try. I don't have any yet, and my belly is as big as most women with a full term singleton.

I think I tried everything there is to prevent them, cocoa butter lotion, baby oil, and a really expensive cream (can't remember the name :nea: ) that my mom ordered for me and I still got them. That doesn't mean that you will though, some people are just really prone to them. Good Luck!

Yep, what she said, it mostly has to do with the elasticity of your skin, if your mother and grandmother had stretch marks, you're pretty much doomed :)

Lotion is helping with the itch some, I think I'm going to try cortizone cream too because the itch gets so bad sometimes!

I'm surprised no one mentioned hydration!!!!! creams don't work, stretch marks happen in the tissues underneith your skin where the lotions can't get but I've read staying well hydrated can help improve the elasticity of these underlying tissues and lessen stretch marks (but not prevent)... I didn't get them until 34 weeks and I thought for sure I had escaped them :)

I drink A LOT of water and have been using the creams. I got my first one at about 25 weeks and then they spread like weeds. Now at 35 weeks it looks like the babies are trying to claw their way out of my belly. There is no way to avoid them. If you're going to get them you will, and if you won't, you won't.

I do nothing. With both of my prior pgs I still did nothing and ended up with *very* minimal, hidden by bikini stretch marks. A good friend of mine used lotions and any stuff she could get her hands on from the moment she found out she was pg and ended up with a good amount of stretch marks.

This time I haven't even concerned myself with getting them. I am no longer going to wear a bikini and DH has seen my body in many compromising states, so if I get them then I'll cope. I'm not saying I WANT them but I'll gladly take them for two more healthy babies!

I have stretch marks from my first pregnancy. But this pregnancy with the twins I been using the Curel Pregnancy Lotion and I haven't gotten any more. I use it after I take a shower in the morning and at night. Its been working well for me. I hope that helps! :D

I posted earlier that I didn't have any stretch marks yet. Well, not anymore! ;) They popped up a couple of days ago.

i was doing fairly well with not getting major stretch marks until maybe a month ago when i developed a delightful little pregnancy rash on my belly called puppps... after that my tummy exploded with them. i dont care though... i wear each one as a badge, something to be proud of. seriously though... if you get puppps, don't scratch it, and avoid loofahs. it looks like there are fireworks going off on my belly. oh well soon enough they will fade away... just like the puberty ones.
