What are the scariest parts of Toy Story?

I know many kids have seen (and liked) Toy Story by the age of 3, but both my kids are really sensitive and easily frightened (there are episodes of Barney that scare them!). However, they are learning a lot about Buzz and Woody from friends at preschool, and Amy says she wants to watch the movie.

I saw it once, long ago, but don't remember much. Can you give me a brief description of the "scariest" parts? They're particularly upset by thinking that something bad might happen to someone (getting lost, left behind, run over, kidnapped, etc.).

    TS1:

Sid (the neighbor's kid) decapitates and destroys toys, makes them creepy. A&R think that's awesome though, they ask for me to fast forward to Sid.

Also, Buzz and Woody get lost, which is pretty scary if you understand that they're lost.

Yeah TS1 is pretty ok, except the part where Woody gets scared because of the creepy toys.

TS2... I think it's just one part where the evil toy appears (he doesn't turn out that evil though). TS3 has more scary parts I thought, with some mean and creepy toys.

The parts with Sid the neighbor were the scariest for mine. My girls are like yours (I had to turn off a recent episode of Ni Hao Kai Lan, Bea was scared), and they LOVE Toy Story 2. Maybe try that one first. They really like Jessie, so they love her introduction and storyline. There isn't anything quite as scary in TS2, no toys in immediate danger. I can't think of anything that scared them. Now Toy Story 3, that scared the crap out of them.

But, as scaredy-cat as my two are, Bea especially, she loved the Thriller video! We watched it on Halloween and she's been asking to see it again. Ainsley was scared though. I think she understood more that that was make-believe and wasn't invested in the characters the same way she gets with kid's shows/movies.

I think Amy would love Thriller because of the dancing. I'll have to try that on her. Neither of them were scared by Halloween at all, no matter how gory the costumes.

I don't remember TS2 at all, but if there's a female character, that might help engage them. (Although Sarah is determined to be a boy at the moment -- but that's another issue...)

They get a little scared of Kai Lan sometimes too -- there's one where one of the characters breaks something because he can't manage to wait for it to be ready to use, and that really disturbs them.

Sometimes I worry about how they're going to cope with the world!

There is a website called www.imdb.com that allows you to put in the name of a movie, and then there is a parents guide after the cast of characters and summary that lists information that parents might find useful before deciding to show the movie to their child. In general I have found it really good.

My 9 yr old recently watched Thriller, and loved it, but when it came time to goto bed, she was frighten because of the Zombies, so that surprised me a bit.

Mine weren't scared by the Halloween costumes either, which surprised me. They also like to play Zombie and Vampire, where they run around trying to eat each others' brains/drink their blood. Thought they would be freaked out when they asked me what vampires, zombies, mummies, werewolves, were, but they were fine I guess because they aren't real. I think things that are clearly make-believe are less scary to them than things that really could happen, like getting lost. Anything with tension/suspense, or someone being mean is what scares them (especially Bea).
