Hey all! i just thought that i'd ask something i haven't seen asked yet so here goes.

here are the stats from my pregnancies and body type.
i have had 3 children all over due! 1st one was 6 days over due (weight 8lb 2oz, 21 1/4 inches), 2nd one was 3 days over due(7lb 15 1/2oz, 19 3/4 inches long), and 3rd was 4 days over due(7lb 10 1/2 oz, 20 inches long). my body type is a big bone stockey build at 5feet 6 inches tall. pre-preg weight before my 1st child 138 (over 8 years ago--lol) now for this pregnancy my pre-pregnancy weight was 180lb (a little over weight). i'm at 11 weeks now.

would any of you have any idea what my chances are on delivering full term or at least to 38 weeks?

    lots of love!

There is no way to predict. Twins is a totally different ball game from having singletons. It's just the matter of how your body adjusts to the extra stress of carrying 2.

I agree with PP. It's a totally different game with 2. I had 2 big babies before the twins anhad big twins at 36 weeks. Live it day by day!

Meshell...I'm wondering the same thing as you!! My son was almost 9 pounds, and I wonder if I'll end up with big babies. I know I've mentioned it before, but my mom had twins 32 years ago, and my brothers made it to 40 weeks and were 7 and 8 lbs. If genetics play a role, then maybe I am on track for big twins...but my mom is a totally different build than me. She's 5'7" and small, and I'm 5'11" and much bigger. So who knows??

I'm very curious as well! I was 8lbs, 15oz and was delivered at 40 weeks + 1 day and my son was 9lbs, 2oz and was delivered at 40 weeks + 2 days.

On the other hand, this pregnancy is totally and completely different from my singleton pregnancy. Like others have mentioned, anything can happen with twins, you just don't know.

I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and so far, so good. Like the pp, I'm also very tall with a long torso so that might be a factor, but I haven't had any PTL signs and it doesn't seem like these two are going to come imminently (although they may surprise me yet). I'll let you know how big they are when they do arrive!

Mine pretty much stuck to what my previous pgs were. I am small framed and only 5'2 and was about 120 pre pg.
With my first dd 36 weeks 5lbs 4oz
    first ds 36 weeks 6lbs 5oz
    twins 28w6d 2lb 6 oz & 2lb 7oz

I couldn't hold a singleton in full term they predicted I wouldn't even make it to 34 weeks with the twins (we were hoping for 32) but didn't last that long. I envy those of you who can carry babies so long!! I don't know how you do it!!

You sound a lot like me. My twins had to be induced because I wasnt going into labor. I was 39 weeks. The doctors thought for sure I would go on my own.

With my son..he was 4 days late and wieghed 7 lbs 7ozs. He also was induced. heh

So there is a good chance you will hold on to your babies until 38, 39 or even 40 weeks. Just because its twins doesnt mean you have to go into pre-labor. I have a good friend who didnt go into pre-labor with her twins either.

Good luck..I hope you have a healthy happy pregnancy. [IMG]

Although twins are a different ballgame, I have heard that carrying a previous pregnancy to full term increases the odds of carrying twins for longer....presumably because your uterus is already stretched out? Does anyone know if that's true?

I was wondering the same thing! My first daughter was 3 weeks overdue (the doctor finally induced, then did c-section) and weighed 9lb 13oz, and my younger daughter was induced on my due date, followed again by 24+ hours of labor and a c-section, and weighed 9lb 5oz... so I'm assuming I will never go into labor on my own! I'm thinking I will give birth to 8 pound twins at 38 weeks (this is the longest my doctor said he will let me go). I read all of the previous posts saying twins are a totally different story, but your height and weight sound similiar to mine, as well as a history of not going into labor early, so I'd say we're going to be pregnant quite a while! I'll let you know how I do in about 8 weeks!

although twins is definately a totally different ballgame my dr said previous history plays a role. I have been told that because my son was induced at 40w6d in combination with his weight, my height and my build I am much less likely to go into PTL. THis doesn't mean that it couldn't happen or that he won't be watching for it, he just said it is less likely to happen. Hope that eases your mind a bit.
