I am thirty weeks now. What would be my next milestone as far as their development and chances of survival and less hospital time?

  3. I know you will get better answers from the other girls, but I know 34 weeks must be something, because my dr is trying everything to keep them in until that magic number.

You will find big milestones can vary by pregnancy and hospital but for us 34 weeks was a very big one. 34 weeks is generally when the lungs reach a maturity level that will allow them to breath on their own, without assistance. Women who go into PTL often get steroid shots that mature the lungs to the equivalent of 34 weeks gestation.

34 weeks was also big for us because that meant I could deliver at my local hospital. If I delivered prior to 34 weeks I would have had to deliver in Boston where they had more adequate facilities for premature babies.

36 weeks is a big milestone because alot of docs consider this to be full term with twins, therefore never adjusting for prematurity.

That chart was very cool. Thanks for that link. that really gives me a goal to try and avoid nicu time! I have no idea if genetics are an indication, but my mom went to 40 weeks with my brothers. I hope to get close (but really, 38 weeks suits me fine!)
