What are some bedroom themes out there

So the boys will be three in October(yes, clearly I am thinking ahead), and I was hoping to do their room over. Right now they are still in their cribs and have the Zanzibar crib set(elephant/giraffe/monkey, etc). When their birthday arrives, I am hoping to transition them to their toddler/twin beds at that time-thus the room makeover.

So-what are some themes, if any, do you have to your kids rooms? At least one with a boy! I asked the boys what color they wanted to paint the room-and one said blue, the other said green(the designated colors for them for when they had thrush as infants). They share a room, btw.

I was thinking Curious George would be really cute. But that might be too young when they are four. Or Dr. Seuss...or transportation, or even Eric Carle(LOVE his books). I want to go all out for them. But not break the bank either. And their carpet is beige, which I find really stinks when you are trying to redo the bedroom with something to match.

Oh-and if you have any photos-that would be an added bonus! :)

We never did a theme per sae. My twins still share a room.

What I would suggest is to decorate in a nice color scheme (maybe blue AND green :good: ) & then accent with what they are loving ATM - Curious George, Cars, etc. Then when it is over (and it will be) you only have to change the accents to get a whole new look.

Even if their carpet is beige, a nice throw rug will let you do whatever color you want. My girls have a pink, pink room and beige carpet, so I got two adorable throw rugs and you don't even notice the carpet.

My girls are getting Toy Story bedding. They just love Buzz and Woody and I feel they will have plenty of years to be girly. So like pp I would pick some colors and just add accents that you can change down the road:) GL and have fun!!!!!

I'm planning to move my kiddos out of their shared room to their own rooms this summer when they'll be about 2.5 years old. My DD wants a "cupcake room" which I'm all for so that's set. When I asked my DS what kind of room he wanted he said "Bugs" I interpreted that as "a woodsy/camping theme with a bug or two in it." I figure I'll get lasting furniture for both rooms and use paint and artwork and accents to "theme it up" so it can easily be changed. Etsy.com has some great vinyl wall decals for both of my themes which I'm excited to use.
Anyway, I love the Eric Carle idea! So many fun colors!

    Great topic Meg!
I've also started thinking about themes for their room. My cousin is an artist and did our playroom so I'm hoping she will do the twins room as well but I just have no idea what I want to do!

Thanks! That's awesome about your cousin! What did she do for the playroom? I could always paint the playroom like Curious George colors!

Good ideas so far! Thanks ladies!

We also used blue/green as infants, so they're my boys' favorite colors, too!

Being that we transitioned to toddler beds, we're still using our crib bedding, so I haven't had to change anything from our dinosaur nursery theme. I am keeping my eye out for twin bedding sales to stock up on, but for now we've had some blankets made to use as quilts on their beds that 'personalize' their bed a little bit!

I think letting them 'help' pick out their theme & getting them involved in their room redecorating will increase their excitement for their transition out of cribs! Maybe do different color walls? Like the wall that their bed on being their color, or do each wall a different color? So many options with paint! You could do half walls, stripes, it's endless!

Is there anything they're "into" right now? My boys LOVE Mickey, Diego, & Little Einsteins, but are starting to get into Disney movies. I didn't really want to go that 'route' with decorating for 2 reasons...1 Name brand stuff like that is expensive & 2 They could outgrow it quickly. If you like Curious George, maybe go with the color scheme but get a generic monkey theme for their bedding. It'd be cheaper & they could grow with it. What monkey bedding ISN'T cute?

Maybe google bedding sets to get some ideas. You could always buy a bedspread & just get plain sheets to match (instead of the coordinating character ones). A lot of sites have those rub on transfers for walls now & fairly cheap.

Good luck! Be sure to post before & after pictures!

My kids have shared a room since day one.

When they were newborns, we went with a safari theme with yellow walls.

The walls are still yellow but now we put up an alphabet wallpaper border. Each letter is a graphic of an item that starts with that letter.

we did Ian's room in Blue and Sand colors (2 walls blue and 2 walls sand color) and I bought applique stickers (that come off) with an all sports theme and put them all over the walls...I got a ceiling fan for his room - the light globe is a baseball and the blades are bats...

Abby's room I did in green and pink with flowers, ladybugs and dragonflies....

I figured each of these rooms would suit them from now until the teen angst years...(and they paint the room black LOL)

Here are the 4 pics of their room - first 2 are Ian's and the 2nd are Abby's

CUTE! Those beds look so little in there! I need to look for wall applique-it might help narrow down the ideas... And I think Andrea mentioned looking for bedding that was on sale...

meg - the bedding was from WalMart was was $30 for the full set (comforter, flat sheet, fitted sheet and pillowcase)...the wall appliques came from Lowe's

the curtains in Ian's room were from a local chain store called Boscovs - but they are online so if you wanted to look for the curtains there you could...

Our room is robots and animals. And a few pirate jolly rogers thrown in for shizngiggles.

I like Ikea for their bedding stuff, and best of all, it's cheap. And they sell matching fabric so you can make curtains or bolster pillows or capes.

My girls' room I painted Yellow, and they have pink curtains with flower wall appliques, flower hooks, nylon butterfly's/dragonfly's hanging from the ceiling, etc... I'm going to change it soon but the yellow gives us a good base color, and the bedding/decor can just change around it.

My son's room is blue, with a chocolate brown bed, chocolate curtains, and will (haven't done it yet but have the stuff) have a transportation theme. I got wall appliques from Target for $12, they have a quilt set for around $50 and matching lamps, etc.

Both rooms have beige carpet. I'm actually thinking of changing it to whatever color (withn reason) the kids pick, but just becuase we have hardwood floors underneath that are in really good shape so I'm not worried about resale...

I am really lucky, before the kids were born, my mom did murals in both rooms, large paintings of cat in the hat with thing one and thing two as well as fox in sox and hop on pop in my son's room and a large tree overflowing onto the ceiling with the velveteen rabbit on the other wall as well as several teddy bears in my daughter's room. It looks awesome and they both love their rooms still at age 2. I'm hoping we can keep it for awhile. She is doing this for a living now, if you're in the DC/VA area email me and she can do it for you too! :) [email protected]

Our children have the same themes in their rooms as they had when they were infants. Our DD's theme is lavender and flowers and our DS'theme is navy blue and sports. They are not really "nursery" type themes, but that was intentional because I was hoping that these themes would last a long time. :)

We have found some wall decals (that are easily removable) at the dollar store and they sometimes "decorate" their rooms with them. This gives them some variety, but nothing permanent.

Like you, I have a girl and boy, both still share room and want to stay together. They are now 3 yrs and 8 months. But it will become my daughter's room once they split up. My son will move out into his own room someday. Our current wall is sort of aqua-green at the moment. We don't have any bedding on their twins bed. However I did have a fleece throw blanket that is in Tinkerbell that my daughter likes to sleep at night time.

That what I wanted to do--it is hard to find 'Peter Pan' and wish they sell those wall decals to go with Tinkerbell. We won't go all the way out character theme. It'll just be bed sheet, pillow decor, and will do tree (for wall decals) and then use whatever Tinkerbell wall decals they got out there but will use wording (Uppercase Living) between their beds.

*If this one doesn't work out--we'll just do yellow/green solid bed comforters and do tree with birds/owls.
