What an appt!

So the babies had their four-month appt. today, and yikes was there a lot going on! First off, they had their second round of vaccines, which obviously they were none too thrilled about! (Is it wrong for me to think they look so cute with their cool bandaids on though?) Now onto the exams ...

So first up for the exam was Katelyn. She's got a small hemangioma (strawberry mark) on the bottom of her nose, just above the space between her nose and lip. It's not very big, but it has increased slightly since we first noticed it at 6 weeks. So the doctor was doing the "Ahhh" mouth exam and she noticed that the middle of K's upper lip is puffing out, which she thinks may be another hemangioma (or the same one just growing down into the mouth). Eeek. So now we've got an appt. with a vascular anomalies specialist next week to have that looked at. He's actually a plastic surgeon, which scared the crap outta me -- not something you like to think about with your four-month-old baby! -- but surgery is not really a likely option for this. If they decide to treat it, I think they'd go the steroid route, but I'll know more next week. So that's got me a bit nervous.

And then Gabriel got examined. And the doctor thinks he may have a hernia in his right testicle AND penile adhesion as well. I'm so bummed about this because I was really on the fence about getting him circumcised in the first place but we did it, and now there's this possible complication from it. So gotta make an appt. for him with a urologist to get checked out and for an ultrasound. I know that lots of babies have hernias and that it's very common surgery, so I'm not super worried about this although obviously I'm not happy about it! (I am worried, just not SUPER worried.) As for the penile adhesion, I'm not sure what the treatment for that is. Anyone have any experience with that?

Hemangiomas, vaccines, hernias, and adhesions -- OH MY!!!!

Does sound like a long appointment. Let us know what you find out next week about eh hemangioma. And also with the appointment with the urologist :hug99: :hug99:

Wow that is alot to digest in one visit. A friend of mine did the steriod treatment for her little girl and it seems to be working. I am not sure about DS's adhesions but definitely keep us updated.

My son had hernia surgery just last week. It went fine and was much harder on me than it was on him, I think! He ended up having bilateral hernias, make sure the other side is explored too if he has surgery. As far as the adhesions, did the Dr fix it? Usually, it just takes a gentle sort of stretching down of the skin around the top there and it opens it back up. It will look red and sort of raw afterward. I put petroleum jelly on my son a couple times a day during diaper changes and sort of pull down gently on the skin to keep it from happening (it did happen with my 2nd son).

Thanks, guys! The pedi didn't fix it today. I think she wants the urologist to see it because she thought the penis was a bit crooked as well (?) -- it's hard for me to remember everything that was discussed since there was so much! I just feel so bad about it because that's something that was caused by a decision that we made for him, you know? The hernia and hemangioma just happened, but the adhesions are a result of something that we decided to do to him. If I could do it over again, I'd just not get him circ'd in the first place. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20, right?

Glad your son is OK! :D

:hug99: Good luck with all the follow-up appointments for your little one. We don't get cool bandaids when the girls get shots. Just boring dots. Maybe next time I'll bring my cool hello kitty bandaids that I got in my christmas stocking!!! (and yes, I will 33 in 3 weeks and I love hello kitty!)
