What age do you let them cry it out at night?

One of the girls started sleeping thru the night at 7 weeks old. They are 10 weeks now. Alayna, our twin who is a pound bigger, is around 10 something and is still doing great with sleeping from around 9-5am or so. Josslyn is just under 10 pounds and still eats every 3 hours. Do you think she will just naturally start STTN at some random night like her sister did, or do some babies have to be forced to? I know she may be a bit small still, even if her sister was that size and ok with it. But is there a chance that she may just have to be forced to skip a feeding...and how the heck do you know when they really don't need the feeding and are supposed to cry it out? She isn't a great eater anyway, so it's hard for me to tell.

I think that if you have them on a good feeding schedule during the day then they will naturally start to go longer periods of time at night. I think that if you put them to sleep immediately after the last feeding of the day, instead of having play time after that feeding, that it becomes a cue that it's night time and to sleep longer. If you have one going longer stretches at 10 weeks consider yourself lucky! I don't think I would do CIO quite yet. However, if she is 6 months old or so and still not STTN and just waking up for a sip or a paci then I would do CIO at that point. Hang in there! Sleep deprivation is so difficult.

most literature says babies are not old enough to do CIO until older than 6 months corrected age. IMO, I would continue to sooth/feed as needed until that age at least.

I totally agree with waiting unitl around 6 months. Hopefully, she will start to sleep longer on her own before then. But :yahoo: for having one that sleeps that long, that's great.

Another one for waiting until around 6 months :good:
I also agree, once they start eating more they will sleep much better :)
You could also bring it up with your Pediatrician & see what they recommend.
    good luck!!

I would just give her time and it will come. She is still pretty young to STTN too. So, just make sure she is getting all she can during the day and she will gradually start to spread out her feedings at night and start dropping them.

I would wait to do CIO too, like PP said. Mine STTN around 4 months, but they had a regression later and we did just a little bit of CIO (thanks to Aimee!! :p ). They now sleep from 7:30-7:30 and if they do wake up at night, they can soothe themselves back to sleep.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I agree with 6 months. I think she's too small and too young to miss a feeding.

I finally did it at 8 months with my guys. It helped, and they STTN for a week or two, but they returned to waking once a night, which was better than 2-3 times.

James - 9 months for night wakings.

Evan - 23 months for bedtime (he couldn't fall asleep without a parent in the room).

My girls are 15 weeks and Josie sleeps thru the night (7:30 to 6:30/7). Libbey started to and then started waking up randomly. They both eat between 28-32 ounces a day depending on the day so they are getting PLENTY of food. THe first night I picked Libbey up to rock her and she wailed her tired cry so I wentr the even MORE sleep depriving route... I patted her back until she went back to sleep and slept onthe floor beside her, patting her back if she got too fussy. Three nights if this exhaustion and she is back to sleeping through the night.
