What age can I ditch the sleep sacks?

Mine have about grown out of their medium sleep sacks... I've really loved them but I don't want to buy more if I don't have to. What age did yours start to do fine with just a blanket in the night/naps? And if you did stick w/the sack, for toddlers do you like the bag ones or the ones with feet cuffs and what brand? Thanks!

We're still using sleep sacks over here, and I'm not planning on getting rid of them anytime soon. I have lighter Halo ones for nap time, those are getting small, and I also have the Grobags for night time. They do go without a sack at nap sometimes and do fine.
They way mine move around at night, there is no way they would stay covered.

We still use them too-I use the blankeaze ones for when its colder (fleece) and will probably give the Halo early walkers ones a try over the summer. Although in the summer when its really warm they just sleep in shorts and t-shirt pj's and do fine. I think most kids cant keep blankets on until atleast 2-even then it just depends on the kid. Mine move around a lot so its kinda impossible :)

I bought THESE for my boys in the fall (when they were just over 1 year), since they wake up at night if they get chilly. It's too cold here in the winter for just jammies, they were tripping in their cribs with the traditional sleepsacks when they started walking, and there was no way they'd keep a blanket on themselves.

These sleepsacks are just now starting to get a little short for them, but they should last us until it's warm enough here at night to retire them. Then we'll go with jammies only. By the time next fall rolls around I think I'll just put blankets on them. :)

I know that Halo makes some with leg holes for "early walkers" but they are so freaking huge that *I* can practically wear them! I bought the Large size, which according to their site is for 12 - 18 months, 30" to 35", 22 to 28lbs. They are on drugs because my boys are at the 50th % for height and there is no way they will be able to wear these until they're in kindergarten.

I just cut the bottom off the small sleep sacks and sew on a piece of fabric to lengthen it... you cut below the zipper just at the bottom seam so you don't have to worry about the zipper. I even bought 3 new Smalls recently b/c they were such a great deal... my kids are skinny so the arms/neck part still fit.

anyway, another reason we are still in them, is because I haven't wanted to go to toddler beds, and the sleep sacks have made it so the babies can't climb out!

good for yours to stay covered, mine sometimes do, but my dd not so much.

Thanks everyone that really helps!! I will stick with using them for sure then... just didn't know if they could pull covers onto themselves at some point in the next few months but I guess not.

maybell - that's a great idea w/the sewing... I don't sew but maybe I can find someone I know who does.

nate & jack's mom - thanks for telling me about the halo ankle cuff ones because I was really thinking of ordering those. it's a shame they're so big b/c it's a good idea (and cheaper than the blankease).

We never used sleep sacks because I didn't want to buy another baby item. We just dress them in layers for nighttime. They do sleep with a blanket but don't always keep it on.

yeah, its a pretty easy fix to lengthen the sleep sacks... ours are all about two-toned now... with a fun fabric on the bottom! a lot cheaper than $15-20 for another one!

I stopped using them around 17-18 months, my two were getting pretty good with the blankets.

:pardon: I don't know..maybe I have little space heaters for kids (I thought so when I was pregnant!) but I've always done just jammies. In the winter fleece ones and in the summer the knit/cotton ones. I've never put onsies or anything underneath them. They stay plenty warm...even right now they are wearing a Carter's pair that don't have the footies in them and their feet are plenty warm:) I do prefer the ones with footies though!

We still use sleepsacks, my boys LOVE them. I just bought the next size up...2T - 3T size...they are in the 12 - 24 months, they are the sleepsacks that have the feet. I find that much better for them, as sometimes their feet do find their way out of the sleep sacks..LOL..helps them move better. I do keep a small blanket on the side of their crib, they will pull it down but never cover themselves with it...I can not imagine them using blankets right now, the sleepsacks are their blankets..WE LOVE THEM!

We stopped using sleep sacks last week actually. They walk in them with ease awake in the crib but sometimes in the middle of the night they would stand up and fall. Now I just make sure they have onesies and warm PJs and lay them on a blanket. They don't keep it on but they like to lay and snuggle against it. I am relieved to not have to worry about them falling anymore. :)

We still use them here, at over 2... they usually fall asleep sucking the ends of them. The only issue we're having is that DS can take it off now, even if we put it backwards. We gave them blankets 2 weeks ago too but they don't use them to cover themselves yet, and it can get cold in their room.

We still use them and have no plans of getting rid of them yet. They work and they sleep through the night so we don't want to mess with a good thing. :) We use the Grobag brand and they are in 18-36M size.
