What a flipping day this has been, not to mention the last 6 weeks of these little ladies lives. As mentioned in my post from earlier this morning, the girls have been kind of lethargic and eating less. i didn't mention this right away to the doctor because I didnt think it was an issue, but theyve also been sneezing some and they cough sometime- not much, but they do cough. She noticed that Ryleigh was breathing funny (she was sleeping) and I told her that she just snores a lot, so does Marleigh. She listened to their lungs and told me they havr bronciolitis, and the cause of it is RSV. ARE YOU KIDDING!! As if things couldn't get worse or more complicated, right? So she tells me they're going to do nebulizer treatments on them and if they sound better after that she will send us home with the machines, but if they do not do better than they may be admitted to the hospital. Oh dear lord! So they did the nebulizer and Marleigh's lungs sounded a ton better afterwards and Ryleigh's sounded somewhat better. So she was confident with sending us home with the machines and albuterol that we have to treat them with for 5-7 days.

As for the vomiting, we are going to try the Gerber rice cereal instead of the beech nut (it's not thick enough) and see if there's any progress. Right now all I feel like is doing this- :BDH:

I'm so sorry to hear that  My son Angelo is still getting over RSV after 3 weeks & 4 days in the hospital on breathing treatments (he is still vomiting and barely eating). All I can tell you is to make sure they are getting plenty of liquids even in small increments to prevent.. well.. throwing up. It is basically a virus that just has to work its way out of the system. Be on the lookout for a fever and/or diarrhea which could lead to something more serious. I hope their on their way to a healthy recovery soon!

We used Gerber as well and we were adding 2 tsps per ounce of Alimentum. I noticed that you are doing 1/2 tsp and that might be the issue. We started at 1 tsp and when we go the okay from the Ped GI to go to 2 tsp it made a HUGE difference in the amount of spit up. I mean an incredible difference.

If that hadnt of worked we were going to try a low dose of Erythromycin (antibiotic). Apparently at a very low daily dose if can speed up gastric emptying and keep things moving. But the thickening with 2 tsps of cereal really helped.

Plus since they have RSV that can really aggravate the reflux. I found that when mine were sick and congested they spit up alot.

Oh no. Ok a couple of things.

    1. Hydration: babies with RSV need to stay hydrated. My kids that had RSV wanted nothing to do with their formula. I had to give them Pedialyte in small amounts because they were vomiting. So, if they stop drinking their formula, you need to get them drinking the Pedialyte to keep them hydrated. Be sure to keep a close eye on their wet diapers.

    2. I posted this in your other thread, but I will post it here too. I am guessing the GI doc recommended the Beechnut Rice because it flows through the nipple so much better than the Gerber does. Smaller flakes dissolve better. 1/2 tsp per oz is not a lot, which is why it isn't thick. To compare, we were putting in 2.5 tsp per oz.

    3. The RSV will aggravate the reflux unfortunately. The extra mucous will just make it worse. :( So, I wouldn't be too surprised if you don't see any improvement on that front until they are well.

    4. I know the GI doc said to let them go 4 hours in between feedings, but since they are sick and lethargic, I wouldn't. Just my opinion though.
