Went to see the Lt. who delivered Emilie at home last year.

A few days before Emilie's b-day we got a letter in the mail addressed to Emilie. I didn't recognize the name or address on the envelope. When I opened it up it was a letter for the Lt. who delivered Emilie at home last year. He sent her a b-day card with a nice letter talking about how amazed he was at her strength being born so early and a $50 savings bond. I was in tears as I read it. Well we took her in to see him today. Unfortunately all of the other men (and there were about 12 in my bedroom that day) who were there that day have been transferred to different stations. One of the other Lt.s did come in on his day off though to see us too. So the 2 men who had the most to do with helping Emilie get her start were there today. It was so sweet, I was in tears as they talked about how they felt during and after she was born. They were both so happy to see her and how well she is doing they had tears in their eyes. The other Lt. did bring a card and a Toys R Us gift card for her. I was sure they had remembered what happened last year, but to remember it and acknowledge it, I was so touched. It was hard to hear them talk about how small she was and some of the things they had to do to her, but that made all the difference. It was so nice to see them and they were just in aw of Emilie. It is nice to know that there are still kind and thoughtful people in this world.

That is a sweet story. My husband is a fulltime fireman and has assisted in a delivery and has been called to many home births. Of course, he was not interested in delivering our two . . . thank goodness! I'm sure you have an amazing birth story . . . I would love to read it sometime if you wrote it down. Congratulations on making through I'm sure an amazing and tough year. Happy Birthday to your two!

You are so right. We will definitely never forgot them and plan to tell Emilie about them and show her the letter and pictures that we took today when she is old enough to understand.

One of them told us today that he is not a very relgious person, but he defintely knew someone else was there that day watching over her. That is when I started getting tears in my eyes. I did get their addresses too so I can send pictures and an update every year on her b-day, and they said they would love that and to continue to update them as long as I would like too. It's a shame the other men have been transferred, we would have loved to thank them all.

Thanks for reading and sharing your kind words!!! It is so nice to know that this is a place for us to share our wonderful moments and everyone understands!!!

Add me to the list of people with tears in their eyes. That was really neat that you got to see two of the men that helped you and Emilie. I hope that you are able to stay in touch with them.

What a lovely and touching story. Tears here too. Isn't it amazing how different people can touch our lives - and we can touch theirs? I'm sure that seeing that little girl grow up - even via pictures once a year, will bring special happiness and joy to him.

How sweet. I didn't get to read your birht story, but I surmise it was pretty amazing! I've been curious about how the twins are ten days apart - think I get the gist now.

You certainly have a story to tell!

Okay Amy - I am crying too. How sweet of those wonderful men! They will always have a special place in your heart and Emilies. I can imagine that it was so hard reliving what happened that day. We took our girls up to the NICU last Friday and I was crying and all our nurses remembering how small they were and how well they are doing now. We have so much to be thankful for!! Also - I want to see pictures from your b'day celebration!
