I was at Motherhood Maternity Outlet on Saturday and I was talking to my mom about a nursing bra I bought from there. I told my mom that I can't wear it because I can barely breath and it hurts really bad to wear. The lady behind the counter asked me if I have popped any ribs yet. Is this common? I understand that more than one baby in there needs room but I have never heard this. Does it hurt if this happens?

Hmm ive never heard this either, though I guess it is possible being kicked and pushed from the inside out...I know that when my mom was pg with me I bruised her ribs on the inside

I didn't have any popped ribs, but I did have some major bruised ribs from a bad cough and DD being pushed up there sideways. never have I been in so much pain, one night I coughed and the muscles along that side of my back spasmed and I was in tears it hurt so bad. DH had to practically pick me up and lay me down in the bed b/c I couldn't move or my back would spasm. However this IS NOT the norm and mostly was due to my cough. I was STUBBORN and didn't want to take the cough medicine like I should have. I have heard of other twin moms w/ bruised and popped ribs but it is not something that happens to everyone, usually there is another cause for it. the connective tissue between each rib will soften and stretch so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have never heard of this......I have 7 children (all boys) with the last 2 being the twins..........I would not even think twice about it if I were you.

I'm sure it's happened, but it's got to be super rare. Don't worry about it. One thing I've learned from having twins is that people are just fonts of useless and usually WRONG information about multiples.

I guess I am the unlucky one in the bunch... I've been having major pain between my breasts where the brastrap goes and I finally asked my bil who is a chiropractor and he said the cartilage between my ribs there is swelling. I was in tears trying to get to sleep last night. For some reason I have been carrying really high since the beginning, maybe this is why. I'm not looking forward to the next 3 months of it!! Bil said the only thing that would help is an anti inflammatory so I'm out of luck! Doc also said this is common and to take Tylenol 8 hour.

I had something similar, but definitely not popping a rib out. I understand that is VERY rare. I'm a fairly small person and my boys got so big that the cartilage between my ribs started stretching. It hurt so much I thought I popped a rib! I couldn't get in an out of bed and it hurt to breathe. DH took me to the hosptial where they said I could take an anti-inflam. but I didn't want to take any while pregnant. The pain actually subsided in a few days and I felt better until they started stretching again closer to delivery.

Actually, I recently learned that the some of the lower ribs... I think it's the lower two, are actually floating...they aren't normally as connected and rigid as the rest... so they have a lot more flexibility in moving in and out. Perhaps they can be really pushed out of place due to a large uterus??

I do know a woman whose ds broke her rib late in pg. !!! yikes!!

I definitely feel my ribs "expanding" and have pain from that, but my latest worry has been the bone in between my breasts, the sternum, actually feels like it is sticking out. The bottom part of it doesn't go down, it sticks forward. I am going to ask my doctor on Wednesday, but its been causing a lot of pain when the boys hit it and I was wondering if anyone else went through this????

    Thanks

I keep getting pain around my bra strap. It feels like my ribs are spreading apart. I also get this sharp stabbing pain between my 1 & 2nd full ribs. I assumed this is normal. A woman pregnant with a single baby in my pilates class said her ribs were black & blue from her baby. I hope that doesn't happen to me (or you) !!

I haven't heard of a rib popping out, but when my mom was pregnant with my brother and I, (she carried us to 36 weeks) the cartilage at the end of her sternum bent forward and curled up from the pressure.

She said it took several months post-pregnancy to go away, but eventually, it did!
