Just been wondering...I freak myself out when I look at weight charts with the boys. The doc has said they're fine and growing on their curve but I'm a worry wart. At just over 4 1/2 months Jonas weighed 12lbs 13 oz and at 5 months Lucas weighed 12lbs 8 oz. Do these sound okay? (at their 4 month appoint Jonas weighed 11lbs 15oz and Lucas weighed 11lbs 12oz)

How much did your babies weigh around this age?

For those of you with older babies...have they gain more/faster after 6 months or at about the same rate?

How much did your babies eat at this age? (Lucas eats 4-5 oz every 3 to 3 1/2 hours; Jonas eats 3-4 oz rarely 5)

I guess I just freak myself out because everyone always says how small they are but they seem happy, don't seem too skinny, and are reaching their milestones...guess I'm just looking for reassurance. FYI...born at 36 weeks both boys were 5 14.

My twins weighed the same as yours at that age, and they are fine! If they werent gaining fast enough your doc would tell you!! I would tell you not to worry, but I know you still will! ;)

Mine were smaller! 12 lb 3 and 12 lb 6 oz at 4 months.

They are eating 5 oz every three hours when they get bottles. They are breastfeed when I am home.

Sounds like your babies are perfect! IGNORE those charts! Skinny minnies are healthy too!

Mine were way bigger, but all my kids are well above average. As long as they're on the charts (or at least growing at the rate of the chart) I wouldn't be too worried. For my 95% children, there are 5% children on the other end ... that's just the way it works.

They were in the 15lbs range at 4 months, and 18lbs range at 6 months (my oldest was in the 16lbs range at 4 months, and 19lbs at 6 months).

    My 2 were born at 32.4 weeks weighing dd - 3lb 4 ds - 4 lb5

At 5 months dd weighed 11lb5
    ds weighed 14lb 10

    At 14months dd weighed 17lb 9
    ds weighed 24lb10!!

My 2 have gained at a steady weight up untill now putting on around the same amount every month. Jack is starting to slow down a bit as he is walking though.I think they were eating around 5 -6oz every four hours at that age if i remember rightly.

Sounds to me that your two are doing absolutley fine and that you have nothing to worry about ( though it is hard not to worry!) I know how you feel about the small bit as i still get that for Sophie now and she is 15 months. x

My guys were born 8 weeks early and my pedi always measures them on the chart at their corrected age. And they are still only in the 10th percentile! But they are growing and have stayed on the curve and are healthy so that is what matters.

I think doctors (and consequently mums) are too obsessed with weight. There are so many indicators that your baby is thriving and weight is just one of them (meeting milestones, happiness, sleeping well, etc.). My boys were HUGE at their 4 month appointment and I worried about that (17 and 18 lbs) - there's always something to worry about.

I'd also just like to add that the charts the doctors use for weight are based on 1950's formula-fed babies of caucasian background. They're totally invald. Breastfed babies will be different, formula fed babies will be different (because formula is so good these days compared to the 1950's), and babies of different ethnicity will be different.

You're the best judge of how healthy your babies are.

My babies were also smaller than yours, 12 lbs 4 oz and 11 lbs 13 ounces just one week shy of 6 months! AND I HAD BIG, TERM BABIES! They are also in the lower percentiles for their height and head circumference. My pediatrician is not at all worried about them as long as they're gaining and as long as all of their measurements pace together. It drives me nuts and I do worry about them, but I'm feeding them all I can. One of my babies is now crawling all over the place and can even get herself into a seated position on her own, so her weight gain has slowed even more due to all the energy she expends (she literally never stops moving). She can even stand while holding onto something, and she's the size of a 3-month-old. It's crazy!

I have a friend IRL with twins that are huge and she worries because they haven't hit certain developmental milestones yet. If your babies were bigger, you'd surely find something else to worry about. It's just our lot in life.

Thank you all sooo much...I know there is always something to worry about but I'll try to leave the weight issue alone.
