When does the weight gain finally start to slow down? Olivia is STILL gaining 2 lbs. a month. She's 8.5 months old and I just put her on the scale with me and then subtracted my weight. She weighing in at 24 lb. 4 oz....at 8.5 months old. OMG!!! I'm scared she's going to end up an obese toddler or something. She's been consistently above the 95% for height and weight since like her 2 month appt. The thing is...she ONLY weighed 6 lb 13 oz at birth. She was NOT a big baby. She's gained more in 8 months than my twins gained in one year.

In comparison (I know I shouldn't compare), but Reagan weighed 29 lbs. at THREE years old. Olivia is only 5 lbs. shy of that RIGHT NOW.

She's not a big eater and never has been. Right now, she's eating around 24 oz. of formula a day and 3-4 jars of baby food PER day. She just doesn't care much for the baby food.

I know most people here probably had smaller babies (I know my twins were 3.14 and 4.8), but if there's anyone out there with full-termers, how did this measure up?

At her 6 month appt, she was 20 lb. 4 oz. and the pedi didn't seem concerned b/c she's following her growth curve...but wow, if this keeps up, she'll weigh 30 lbs. at her 1 year app...YIKES!!!!!

I think mine have slowed down some since 8 months, but I'm not totally sure as my scale isn't the most accurate. That being said, 3-4 jars of food a day is much more than my two eat. They have 1.5 jar (the earth's best stage 2 size), plus maybe 2 tsp of cereal and 1 tbsp of yogurt each a day.

Aww, I have the opposite problem. My babies probably eat a similar amount of food, but I believe they take in close to 38 ounces of formula/breastmilk per day, and are on the very petite size. So no advice, not sure when the weight gaining slows down. My DS gained weight rapidly until he was about 2, then he quit gaining for probably a year and just got taller and stretched out that big old belly he had.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I also have a baby girl who gains weight like there is no tomorrow. Mine were both born at 38 weeks on the dot, DD weighing 6lbs 110z, and DS weighing 6lbs 14oz. At her two month appt she was 13lbs, and at her 4 month appt (was actually closer to 5 months as we were away) she was 19lbs!!! She seems to be steadily gaining 2lbs a month!!!

There are two ways I look at this. The first, is that she actually gains a normal amount of weight every month, the same amount as her brother. She just had double the gain that most babies do in the first 2 months, which has pushed her ahead ever since.

The second is that its genetic. I was exactly the same way as a baby, my weights correspond perfectly with hers for nearly every month, and my weight gain started to decline a lot after I turned 6 months, so she may just be genetically inclined to be like her Mum. I'm not overweight, never have been, I just gained weight as a baby early, and I'm pretty sure she is exactly the same. She eats the same amount as her brother, yet he is closer to 16 or 17lbs.

Despite knowing this, I still look concerned enough that at every appt with the pediatrician she always reminds me that this is only temporary, and she isn't going to weigh 50lbs at 2 years of age or anything like that. I hope shes right!

Anyway, my pediatrician says she may gain weight until she is a year old, and then hardly gain anything the next year. But yeah, I know exactly what you mean, and its nice in a way to know I have finally found another 95 %ile baby out there!

My girls are 8 months and Claire is 19 lbs. and Madison is 16 1/2 lbs. Claire doesn't eat that much more than Madison. I just think that's how she is.

Maybe this will make you feel better. I work with a girl that has a 5 year old boy. For the first 2 years of his life he was really big - in the 95 % for weight and now he is a normal (probably more on the smaller size) size kid for his age. Kids/babies are different and grow and different rates, etc.. (((HUGS)))

I hope I didn't scare you with my comments! I doubt there are many calories in baby food anyway so it's probably not making a big difference.

On a side note, the chubby babies I've met ended up getting quite skinny once they started moving more!

my dd is another one in the 95 % or she was at the 9 month appt. at birth she weighed 5 lb 15 oz and at 9 months she was 24 lb 11 oz and i don't think she's slowed down any either. she eats the same as ds but he's not as big. at 9 months he was 21 lb 4 oz (50 %). they are both getting about 16 oz of formula and about 8 oz of milk. pedi told us to start dd on 2 % since she was on the heavier side. i give ds whole milk. HTH

I posted some on the other thread, but I think she's fine! At 9 months, Jack was 20 pounds 10 ounces - that's actually down a little from a week before when he was 21 pounds 12 ounces. His 9 month weight put him at 50%. Anna was 19 pounds 3 ounces, which was 50th percentile for girls. They have until recently eaten 35 to 40 ounces of formula a day and two containers of stage 2 baby food daily each. They are now doing 4 bottles, so 32 ounces of formula and two to three containers of baby food plus finger foods.

If your pedi is not concerned, you shouldn't be concerned! It's not really comparable to your twins because they were born smaller. It doesn't sound like she's eating an odd amount, and it'll all even out once she starts walking.
