I have read so many different things about weight gain. My doc says to gain around 35-40 lbs and I'm probably considered "normal" for my height and weight. The books seem to be saying to gain closer to 60 lbs. I'm curious how much weight people gained and how big their babies were? Also curious how hard it is to drop post pregnancy?

IN the begining I lost 20lbs from severe hyperemesis, After it was some what under control I was able to gain back the 20 i lost and 20 more but they only considered my weight gain as 20lbs b.c the first 20 was just getting me back to my pr pg weight.

The bpys were born at 3.13 and 4.13..... I still have not lost it but thats my own fault.

I was probably about 5 pounds over my ideal weight when I conceived.
but I gained a total of 29lbs adn my boys were 6.9 adn 6.11 pounds.
I actually tried really hard to gain more, but couldn't.
    I was all baby, I lost 24 of the 29lbs by the time I left the hospital {5 days}

I gained 6 pounds, babies weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and 4 pounds 8 ounces. I left the hospital weighing less than my prepeg weight.

    I gained 40 lbs...babies weighed 5 lb 4 oz and 5 lb 1 oz at 36 weeks.

I dropped it all in a month, now 3 1/2 months later I'm down an additional 10 lbs.

I'm a freak though I think!! I eat constantly and still lose weight. I really credit it to the breastfeeding. It burns a lot of calories exclusively breastfeeding twins! I'm afraid when I wean the girls, I'll start gaining!

I started out normal weight, and I gained 42 pounds (delivered at 31 weeks). My peri said to gain anywhere from 35-45 pounds. My babies were 3lb4oz and 3lb8oz at birth.

I lost 20 of it by 3 weeks PP, and then nada (actually gained 10 back while BF'ing). I had to really work hard at it with diet and exercise to drop the weight, and I'm still 2 pounds away from my PP weight. I do think that 15 weeks of bedrest messed with my metabolism a bit, and it took exercise and diet to kick it back into gear.

    Babies were 3 lbs 5 oz & 3 lbs 2 oz, 31 weeks.

I gained a total of 45 lbs, but probably would have gained more had I not delivered 7 weeks early and had some other medical problems during pregnancy.
As far as losing the weight, it depends on how dedicated you are to eating right and exercising.

My neighbor is pregnant with g/g twins and is 30 weeks and has already gained 100lbs!

I was 134 at my first appointment and 187 the morning that I delivered - so I gained 53 pounds in 35 weeks 5 days. I most of the weight by 5 months and now I think that I may have a pound or two to go. I have not been working out or anything - maybe someday when I have time

I gained 43 pounds in 38w2d of which 13lbs in the last 3 weeks, mainly fluids (severe swelling). My babies weighed 15 1/2lbs together. I lost all weight within 1 week and at 6 weeks pp I was 7 under.

I am 5"4 and weighed 120 when I got pregnant. I have gained 40 lbs already and I have a few more weeks to go. Hopefully the weight will drop off once I give birth, like I see some of the Moms say it did. Good Luck.

I gained a total of 60lbs. I was 118 prepregnancy (5ft 3in) I lost 30lbs before leaving the hospital and lost another 25lbs in the past 4 months. I'm almost at my prepregnancy weight and all my prepregnancy clothes fit (finally)

My babies were born at 38w3d and weighed 7.10lbs (ds) and 5.3lbs (dd)

I feel like a piggy, I was 120 prepregnancy and delivered at 206 and that was almost 6 weeks ago. I was just at the doctors and I weighed 150. So I still have a way to go but my face thinned out and my but and legs are back to normal, it is just my belly and my boobs but I don't think the boobs are going to go away anytime soon since I am bf. I think I am doing pretty well 56 lbs in 6 weeks, but I would definitely do things different next time around it was a huge strain on my body.

My normal prepregnancy weight was 125, but that was before I conceived my 3rd singleton. Since I got pregnant 7 weeks after delivering him, and I was exclusively breastfeeding, I have no clue what I weighed. When I delivered my twins, I weighed 161 lbs. -- but they were born at 29 weeks weighing 2 lb. 12 oz. and 2 lb. 7 oz. I was on modified bedrest for 20 weeks with my last singleton and 5 weeks with my twins, then on complete bedrest for 10 weeks with the twins, so I think it totally messed up my metabolism. I still am struggling to lose the weight -- currently weigh 132 lbs. and my body is TOTALLY different than it was. I don't think I'll ever be back to my original body (which I achieved easily after my 1st 2) but it's a small price to pay for these little miracles. :)

Although I am only halfway through the pregnancy, I have the opposite problem than most. I was a big woman to begin with so I am not showing at all at 21 weeks and have only gained 7lbs. I think the smaller you are, the more you have to gain for the health of the babies. I guess my babies may be dipping into my fat reserve!

I was underweight when I got pregnant then I gained 50 pounds total being pregnant with twins. I lost 30 of it but the last 20 sticks to me, but I didn't breastfeed long enough, I think that would of helped me shed more pounds. My stomach will never be the same :( but it is a small price to pay. I wish I could at least loose 10 to 15 more pounds and I would be really happy.
As long as you eat healthy you won't gain unwanted weight.

Though I was considered a overweight when I got pregnant, I gained only 24 lbs and delivered at 35 weeks, to 5 lb 4 oz, and 4 lbs 9oz. Because I was exclusively bf my girls, I lost a total of 50 lbs in the first 5 weeks. I think because I was too tired to really eat, but I drank lots of water during those weeks. So far, 11 months later, I have kept the weight off, but am afraid that once I stop bf, then the weight will come back.

I gained 60 lbs and was refered to a nutritionist! I started at 135, my highest pregnancy weight was 198, and four month post-partum I am 152 :) Trying to get back down to my pre-pregnancy weight!

I gained almost 55 lbs. I got to 37 weeks with Joey being 5lbs 7 oz and Enzo 6lbs 2oz. I was on bedrest too so that may have helped with the babies' weights.
Now I'm down to 15 lbs over my pre=pregnancy weight.

It seems many of us were in the textbook weight gain range. (Me too.) And it looks like the 5lb average for twins is holding steady - mine were roughly 6 and 4 lbs.

Regardless, I definitely recommend IGNORING the books and people who tell you you're too small/big/whatever for twins. It's your pregnancy, right?

Anyway, my OB was great about helping me focus on consistent nutrition, GRADUAL weight changes up and down, and appropriate activity levels. She was on a mission to help me avoid preventable gestational diabetes and borderline preeclampsia (yes to first, no to second).

Post-babies my OB and pedi had the same mantra: Ignore what "they" say. It's not about the numbers, it's how well you get there.

Hope this helps - and well done to all of you!

PS - While I did not get stretch marks, I did get "twin skin"...that kangaroo-like pouch that is immune to situps. Oh well...small price to pay for healthy babies (now toddlers).

I am a large girl to begin with. I gained 38 lbs. with my twins (less than with my singleton). They weighed in at 6 lb. 4 oz. and 7 lbs. even. They were induced at 38 +1.

I was on strict hospital bedrest from 23.6 - 32.6 when the boys were born, so a lot of my weight gain came during the last couple of weeks from fluid retention. I gained 37 pounds, and lost all of it + 10 more by my 6 wk check up. My boys were 2.6 and 3.9.

    I gained 40 lbs.

Started out average weight. Had them at 36W and they were 4lbs 11oz and 5lbs 5oz. I lost 20 pounds within 24 hours of having them! The nurses thought I was crazy getting on a scale right after having a baby. I wouldn't have wanted to gain less than the 40. I ate very healthy the whole pregnancy and chased 2 kids around so was very active the whole time.

I was in my pre-pregnancy jeans at my 2 week check up.

I gained a total of 37 pounds and delivered at 36 weeks. The girls were 5lb 6oz and 5lb 1oz. I lost 40 pounds in about 11 days....mostly fluid. I pumped for the first week, but my milk never fully came in. My belly is flatter then it was pre-preggo.

Since I am scheduled to deliver Friday, I thought I could pipe in!! I have gained 50lbs so far BUT by the time my appointments roll around, I am so swollen that some of that is water weight. I don't keep a scale at home b/c I like to go by how I feel not how I look. I had severe swelling issues with my singleton, gained about 40lbs with him and was down 30+ by 10 days pp.

Check out Dr. Luke's book that has a whole thing on healthy weight gain and how you need to gain weight for the babies.
I really havent worried too much about it and neither has my ob.

First, I am a big girl to begin with. I am about 60 pounds overweight. I gained 17 pounds with the twins. They weighed 5#13oz and 5#1oz. When it was all said and done I was 20 pounds lighter after all the swelling and stuff than I was when I got pregnant.

I am a high risk pregnancy dietitian. My suggestions - for a normal weight woman - is to gain between 40-50 pounds for a twin pregnancy.

    Hope that helps.

I gained alot . . . I was 119 and 5'5" (thanks to metformin for pcos) when I got pregnant and I was 209  when I had the girls. They girls were born at 34w5d and each weighed 5lb5ounces. I went to see my ob a week after they were born and I had lost 50lbs of the 90lbs I had gained. And I remain around 155lbs, which was my pre-metformin weight. Alot of that 50lbs was extra amniotic fluid that the girls had related to a syndrome they have.

I gained 53 lbs. I had the girls at 38.5 weeks. They were 6lbs 2oz each. By 4 months PP I had dropped all but 15lbs and was stuck there. I did weight watchers to help get rid of that. I stopped doing WW when I got to my pre-pregnancy weight. Since then, I've lost an additional 14 lbs. Running around after 2 toddlers can be a workout of its own! :winking0009:

I gained 45 lbs. I lost it all after a few weeks post partum but, then like a few PP gained some of it back due to lack of sleep, grab what you can to eat and stress the first few months.
