Now, I understand that with twins you should gain from about 35 to 45lbs. I have gained a total of 13lbs and I am 5 months a long. 9 of those 13lbs were gained just last month. Should I be worried about this? This is my first pregency and I guess I let go with my diet last month... big time. The doctor said I'm still doing okay, but I need to be careful. Here's my question... how did everybody else gain weight? Was it only a few pounds a month throughout their whole pregency or was there a month or two that you had growth spurts then slowed downs again. Thanks

If your Dr. isn't concerned at this point, then I wouldn't be either. But at the same time, it doesn't seem like a lot of weight gain for 5 months. By 20 weeks I had gained 20 lbs with my twins. Everyone gains weight differently.

I think genetics can play a part, but from all the reading I have done, I found that 20lbs by 20 weeks is a recommended # to go for with twins b/c of the risk of them coming early and the fact that you cannot get as many calories toward the end of pregnancy b/c there is so little room left in your belly for food. I have been doing all I can to increase my calories and give these babies all the nutrients I can. This is my 2nd pregnancy, and I gained on the upper end (about 40lbs) with her, but she was healthy and went to full term and I had a good labor. I lost the weight easy enough so I am just keeping that perspective in mind this go round.

I have gained about 11 lbs and will be 22 weeks tomorrow. My dr wasn't concerned at my last appt, but we'll see what she says next week. I spent 15 weeks so sick that I'm proud for what i have managed to gain and have been trying hard. As pp said, everyone's body is different.

like i have stated before in previous questions about weight gain, everyone is different......that is key, remember that and live by it.

the so called standards, i.e. "35-45lbs total" is simply not realistic for most women as all women gain and loose weight differently. i have known many singleton pregnancies that went as high as 65lbs and that is just with ONE baby.

now they say the recomendation is 20lbs by 20weeks so if you can abide by that the better because as another poster said it is damn hard to get food in your stomach once you reach a certain stage in your pregnancy, for me that was around 18 weeks.

i gained 15-17lbs in my first trimester alone and i was sick a lot of the time. i am 22 weeks tomorrow and have surpassed my "goal" weight of 20lbs and am now around 24lbs. is my OB concerned, not at all. my babies are in the 50th percentile for growth so they are right on target for their growth and weight gain.

the most important thing to remember during ANY pregnancy isn't the amount of weight you gain at any stage of the pregnancy it is how well the baby or babies are growing.

i know the numbers on the scale can be daunting but you have to remember that it's your babies that need the nutrition and that we have to put our own vanity aside and make sure they are as healthy as possible/

with twin pregnancies it is my opinion that it's best to pack on as much weight in the beginning as possible to ensure that you can at least make a target delivery weight of 5lbs per baby. the bigger the baby at delivery the less time spent in NICU.

and just remember, whatever weight we gain during pregnancy we can loose once they get here.

so if your doctor isn't concerned than you shouldn't be either. just roll with the punches. if you are hungry eat something because pretty soon it will be hard to get down even the smallest of meals, in my experience anyways.

It bothers me when I go in and gain a lot too BUT I was so sick in the beginning that as soon as I could eat I ate everything in site. I gained 11lbs at my last appt and my OB wasn't concerned at all... me well I'm like you lol

I gained ten at my last appt., and my next one is Thursday, and I am fairly certain I have gained about 8 this time! However, for 25 weeks my total is only around 21 pounds, so not too bad. I agree with all the other PP's if your doctor isn't concerned, you shouldn't be either. EAT! LOL.

I gained about 25lbs by 20 weeks. My babies were delivered at 37w4d and by that time I had gained 65 lbs. They are now almost 12 weeks old and I have lost all but 10 lbs. I wouldn't worry too much about it. There were periods of time where I was gaining 10lbs over a 2 week time frame. My babes ended up being 6.12 and 6.15, so they were pretty good sized. My doctor never worried about my weight gain, nor did she comment on it. In fact, I quit looking at the scale the last few months. I just didn't feel the need to know how big I was getting. I asked my doctor at my 6 week post partum visit how much I weighed on the day they were delivered, otherwise I would have had no idea how much I gained.

Is it me or is it the weight gain aspect of pregnancy one of the most if not the most horrifying realities of being pregnant with twins? I try so hard not to get hung up on the weight gain, but honestly I can't help it. Although my husband is quite reassuring and treats me like I am carrying the new King and Queen of the world, I feel consumed with the topic of weight gain. I have already gained 13 pounds and am only 21w6d. It is scary.

Then you wonder how you will ever look the same again, I mean, I still want to be able to entice my husband with my beauty, LOL...

What's worse, where will the energy come from to raise them and how will I realistically lose the weight.

    Just my thoughts....

I have literally not gained any weight at all in my first trimester. In fact, I actually lost some from sickness and being unable to eat. I got pregnant via IVF and I gained horribly from the hormones in the last couple of weeks of the procedure. All that weight has dropped off and I'm back to my pre-IVF weight. Having said that, I'm not a small person to begin with so I'm sure my babies are sustaining fine, but I know that I need to get more nutrition in me. My doctor doesnt seem too concerned though. I'm hoping to catch up in the next few weeks.

I gained pretty steadily throughout, but the last month or so I stalled out and actually lost 2 lbs then I went and gained 6 lbs in 2 weeks! The reason that they get worried if you have a rapid weight gain is because it could be a sign of pre-eclampsia, but if your dr. isn't worried, then I wouldn't be either. Just eat lots, and keep it as healthy as you can, and don't be afraid of ice cream ;) It's normal and healthy to gain weight during pregnancy!
