I am 18 weeks and feeling SMALL for carrying twins. Did you gain the most weight 1st, 2nd or 3rd Trimester? :bump:

30 weeks is when I started getting HUGE. By 37 wks, I couldn't even get my legs over the tub and needed to wait for DH to get home so I could shower.
So Yeah, you'll get big, enjoy being small now.

Good, I mean not really but it's inevitable. I just want to make sure I am doing well by the babies!

I have read that the more weight you gain in the first 20 weeks the better your chance of carrying the twins farther in the pregnancy. I was wondering what other people's experience has been with this and if they think there is any truth to it.

I lost almost 18lbs my first trimester (I had some extra fluff prior) d/t M/S and then gained about a lb/week since then. I am 32wks and now have gained 35lbs...seems like the last couple weeks has been a 1-2lb weight gain. I know about all the guidelines and such...but my babies have always measured right on and don't seem affected by weight flucs. At 18wks I was the same size with my singleton....don't worry it will happen!!!! The garbage disposal in you will pick up soon!!! My husband calls me the hoover...I eat ALL the time.

I lost during the 1st trimester due to morning sickness/food adversion. I gained a pound a week during the 2nd trimester. I too felt SMALL for carrying twins. I was admitted to the hospital at 24 weeks and the nurses kept commenting on how small I was...it made me feel nervous. Once in the hospital I don't think I gained any because I am the type of person who losses appetite under stress. Once I went home on bedrest at 28 weeks I really started packing on the pounds. My feet started swelling and it felt like my belly got bigger by the day. DH had to help me in and out of bed and off the toilet! It was horrible. As a joke he bought me one of those raised toilet seats...it was no joke, I used it and it was the best thing ever!! I think I was gaining 5lbs a week by the end when my dr started checking my bp and urine weekly. By the end of my pregnancy (34 weeks) I gained 50lbs and most of it was during the last month.

By 12 weeks, I had gained 2 lbs.
After that, I gained 2.5 lbs/wk for about 4 weeks and then a pretty consistent 2 lbs/wk all the way through week 33. Then it got weird--I gained just over 3 lbs in one week (I think b/c I was retaining fluid--I had edema in my lower legs that week), then 0.4 the next week and 0 this past week.

I should add, the pp is right: Studies seem to indicate that it's good to gain 20 lbs by 20 weeks and try to gain a lot of your weight by 28 weeks--associated with better gestation times and birth weights for multiples. Also, for many MOMs your appetite shrinks in later pregnancy as your stomach has less room to expand and you might start developing more heartburn and nausea again toward the end, so it's harder to keep up the weight gain.
